Thank you Dave and the many others who volunteer and train to help residents during emergencies and disasters. Interested? Contact [email protected]

This National Volunteer Week we are celebrating volunteers like Dave. Dave’s introduction to the Pender Island Emergency Program was a boil water advisory back in 2003. It motivated him to join the Neighbourhood Program and within five years both he and his wife Tanya had trained to be Emergency Support Services volunteers, ready to help evacuees in the event of a wildfire, earthquake or other disaster. His dedication didn’t stop there. He went on to serve as both a Duty Officer and a member of the island’s Emergency Operations Centre team.

ā€œGrowing up, I was inspired by my parents to volunteer and give back to my community. I’ve really enjoyed working with the public - encouraging emergency preparedness and public safety. We have an amazing group of volunteers in the Emergency Program who will show up to support our residents and emergency responders if something bad happens that puts people at risk. They have inspired me and I’m extremely proud to have been a part of thatā€.

Happy retirement and thank you for 23 years of outstanding service!
