The Prince Albert Police Service Canine Unit will be participating in the 2026 Canadian Police Canine Association (CPCA) Trials, hosted by the Saskatoon Police Service.

Members of the Prince Albert Police Service Canine Unit will be participating in the trials with Police Service Dogs (PSD) Pando and Ares, demonstrating their training and capabilities in a variety of disciplines, including tracking, building searches, compound searches, criminal apprehension and article searches.

The CPCA Trials bring police canine teams from across Canada together in a friendly competitive environment, providing an opportunity for handlers and their Police Service Dogs to test their skills, learn from other teams and share knowledge and experience.

Constable Brown has been a member of the Prince Albert Police Service Canine Unit for more than eight years and has previously participated in the CPCA Trials on two occasions. This year’s event holds particular significance for him as he trained with PSD Pando in Saskatoon in 2025. The team has been working together as operational partners for approximately one and a half years.

“Our K9 teams undergo extensive training and are ready for the demands of their work in our community,” said Chief Patrick Nogier. “The CPCA Trials provide an opportunity to showcase that training while highlighting the teamwork, commitment and professionalism required to develop a strong canine team. We are proud to have our members representing the Prince Albert Police Service at this national event."

Constable Brown said he is excited to return to Saskatoon with PSD Pando.

“We are super excited about the Trials being hosted here in Saskatchewan, and we can’t wait to showcase all of our Saskatchewan K9 units across the province,” said Constable Brown. “It’s a great opportunity to compete with teams from across Canada, learn from one another and demonstrate the capabilities of our Police Service Dogs.”

For Cst. Brown, returning to Saskatoon also brings him back to where he and Pando trained together in 2025.

“I’m really looking forward to going back, especially because that’s where I trained with Pando,” said Cst. Brown. “And I appreciate the Saskatoon Police Service for hosting this year’s trials.”

The Prince Albert Police Service Crime Reduction Team (CRT) has arrested a 30-year-old male in connection with a break and enter at a hotel on September 2, 2026.

At approximately 1:43 a.m. on September 2, police received a report of a break and enter at the hotel in the 300 block of 38th Street West. An RCMP member reported that a firearm and other police equipment had been stolen from a hotel room.

Through the course of the investigation, CRT members identified a male suspect and located him at a residence in the 900 block of 2nd Street East. The event was deemed high risk, categorized as a critical incident, and specialized resources were called to assist.

They deployed to manage the incident resulting in a controlled surround-and-call-out. Adults and children safely exited the residence and were assisted by Prince Albert Mobile Crisis. A 30-year-old male surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was executed at the residence.

The 30-year-old male has been charged with Break and Enter with Intent and Breach of Release Order. He will make his first court appearance on September 4, 2026. (Court Information Number: 991350216A)

Earlier this same day, the Saskatchewan RCMP arrested a 42-year-old male in relation to the same incident. He is charged with Break and Enter with Intent. He made his first court appearance on September 3, 2026. (Court Information Number: 991350216)

A search of the hotel area by both Prince Albert Police Service and RCMP members have led to the recovery of many of the stolen items. Police are working to identify additional suspects and recover any remaining police equipment.

The Prince Albert Police Service Critical Incident Response is the coordinated deployment of command, tactical, negotiation, and specialist resources under a unified incident command structure to manage high-risk or complex events. Members of Patrol, Canine, the Prince Albert Police Service Emergency Response Team, the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team, Negotiators, Crime Reduction Team, Proactive Policing Unit and Forensic Identification Section assisted with this investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing and police presence in the 900 Block of 2nd Street East has now concluded.

The Prince Albert Police Service has charged a 34-year-old male with numerous fi****ms-related offences following an investigation into drug trafficking and the possession of fi****ms.

On August 28, 2026, members of the Prince Albert Police Service Crime Reduction Team (PACRT), Patrol Unit and RCMP CRT executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of 18th Street West, and a vehicle connected to the investigation.

The search was conducted at approximately 7:03 p.m. and Police located and seized the following items:

• Two 12-gauge shotgun rounds;
• One .410-calibre round;
• Four airsoft pistols;
• One Wi******er Model 94 .30-30 rifle;
• Mossberg model 560 sawed-off shotgun and barrel
• A Steambow crossbow;
• Ten large caliber rounds
• Two .22 caliber rounds
• 1.3 grams of methamphetamine; and
• One digital scale.

Earlier that day, a member of the Patrol Unit had arrested the 34-year-old on outstanding warrants. A search incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of approximately 11.4 grams of methamphetamine, 2.6 grams of co***ne, a machete, $2,532 in Canadian currency, a digital scale and a large quantity of small bags.

He was charged with six offences, including a Breach of a Release Order, following the arrest.

The man is facing 15 additional charges, including fi****ms offences under the Criminal Code and weapons-related offences, as a result of the search.

He is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on September 3, 2026.

With students returning to classrooms on Wednesday, the Prince Albert Police Service is reminding motorists, pedestrians, students and families to take extra care as school zones become busy again.

The return to school means more children and youth will be walking, cycling and being driven to and from school. Motorists are reminded to slow down, remain alert and watch carefully for students crossing streets and entering roadways.

Drivers are encouraged to:

- Slow down and obey the posted speed limits of 30 km/hr in school zones.

- Stop for pedestrians at marked and unmarked crosswalks.

- Watch for children who may be crossing unexpectedly or may be difficult to see.

- Put away distractions, including cellphones, while driving.

- Allow extra time for increased traffic and congestion around schools.

- Follow school-zone parking, stopping and traffic restrictions.

- Be especially cautious when approaching school drop-off and pick-up areas.

Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to review pedestrian and traffic safety with children before the first day of school, including using designated crossings, looking both ways before crossing and making eye contact with drivers whenever possible.

“School zones are not just another stretch of road,” said Chief Patrick Nogier. “They are places where children are learning, walking, crossing and sometimes making unpredictable decisions. Drivers need to be cautious. Slow down, stay focused and give every child the chance to get home safely.”

The Prince Albert Police officers will be visible in and around school zones as the school year begins and will continue to monitor traffic and address unsafe driving behaviours.

The Service wishes students, families, teachers and school staff a safe and successful start to the new school year.

Frontline officers with the Prince Albert Police Service continue to respond to a high volume of calls for service while remaining committed to keeping the community safe.

Between June and August 19, officers responded to more than 70 calls for service during 12-hour shifts, dealing with a wide range of incidents and calls for assistance. These included disturbances, family disputes, weapons-related calls, welfare checks, proactive neighbourhood engagement and other matters requiring a police response.

The busiest shift occurred on July 30, when officers responded to 92 calls for service in a single 12-hour period.

These numbers provide a snapshot of the demands placed on frontline officers, who can move from one call to another throughout a shift, responding to incidents that can range from routine matters to situations requiring an immediate and coordinated police response.

“Responding to over 70 calls in a 12-hour shift is a significant workload, and 92 calls in one shift demonstrates just how busy our frontline officers can be,” said Chief Patrick Nogier. “Despite that pace, our members continue to respond with professionalism, compassion and a commitment to public safety. Every shift brings a new challenge and every call matters. As we continue to show up, we thank the community for its ongoing support.”

The Prince Albert Police Service is raising awareness about intimate partner violence (IPV) and encouraging anyone experiencing violence or abuse in a relationship to seek help and report it.

Intimate partner violence can occur between people who are currently in a relationship or individuals who were previously in a relationship.

IPV can take many forms, including physical violence, threats, emotional or psychological abuse, coercive control, financial abuse, stalking, and other behaviours intended to intimidate, control, or harm a partner.

The Prince Albert Police Service continues to respond to reports of intimate partner violence and recognizes the importance of encouraging victims and survivors to come forward.

The number of IPV incidents recorded by police remains a concern, and the Service is encouraging members of the public to report incidents of violence and abuse.

“We recognize the courage it takes to come forward, and we are committed to supporting victims and survivors with compassion and respect.” says Chief Patrick Nogier. “By working together with our community partners, we can prevent violence, strengthen support systems, and ensure people get the help they need.”
