A suspect in a break and enter and assault incident earlier this week decided they were going to try and evade officers and beat the heat by jumping into a pond.

At around 2:50 a.m. on May 28, 2026, police were called to the 1000 block of College Drive for a report of a man with a baton who had reportedly broke into a building and began threatening people. Our officers responded along with the Saskatoon Police Air Support Unit (ASU) who witnessed the man enter a nearby pond on the university campus.

During their investigation, officers learned the suspect broke two windows and entered a room where a verbal altercation occurred between the suspect and woman. Two males then entered the room and the suspect reportedly threatened them with a baton before exiting the room.

The 32-year-old man was arrested by SPS officers shortly after entering the pond and has now been charged with breaking and entering, resisting arrest, assault (x2), and multiple weapons related charges.

While he may have been able to escape the heat for a short moment, he wasn’t able to escape his arrest.

Kindness met kindness when a Sergeant on Patrol had a coffee and cookie purchased for them.

Recently, a customer at a local Tim Horton’s saw a Sergeant buying a coffee and cookie and generously stepped in to pay for it. What this customer didn’t know was that the Sergeant wasn’t placing an order for themselves but, rather, was purchasing the snack for an unhoused member of our community.

Through two quiet acts of compassion we’re reminded that when we look out for one another – kindness exists all around us. Even the smallest moments can make the difference in our community; if you’re committed to making moments matter, consider joining us.
