Six kittens, approximately 2 weeks old were abandoned, left in a box in the bushes. Thank you to the individual who contacted the THS Animal Shelter when she came across the kittens. The mother cat was not left with the kittens, who usually stays with their mother for 8-12 weeks. Thank you to one of our volunteers and our Shelter Worker, Lena, for taking care of the kittens by bottle feeding them during the night until they can be flown down to Grateful Friends Rescue on Wednesday.
What Constitutes Abuse and Neglect Under provincial law? It is illegal to inflict or fail to provide the following:
1) Failure of Basic Care (Neglect): Owners must provide animals with adequate food, clean water, proper shelter, regular exercise, and necessary medical attention.
2) Unsanitary Living Conditions: Keeping animals in crowded, dirty, or unsafe spaces lacking proper ventilation and lighting is a violation.
3) Inflicting Suffering: It is prohibited to cause acute suffering, serious injury, harm, or extreme emotional anxiety/distress that significantly impairs an animal’s health or well-being.
4) Unfit Transport and Abandonment: Transporting animals that are physically unfit for travel or leaving companion animals unattended in unsafe hot or cold vehicles is strictly prohibited.
