Today we remember the late Clayton Cassidy, who was a respected community leader from Cache Creek. Clayton was honoured in 2016 for his exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication during and after the devastating floods in 2015, when he worked tirelessly to help residents stay safe and return to their homes. A long‑time member and former Fire Chief of the Cache Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Clayton devoted more than three decades to public safety and community service, while also volunteering as a coach and serving on numerous local committees.

Today in 1989, the Order of British Columbia was established, marking 37 years of honouring excellence in B.C!

The Order of BC is the highest honour the Province of British Columbia can bestow on its citizens, and, as Chancellor of the Order, I'm proud to celebrate the 530 British Columbians appointed since its creation. Their achievements span a full spectrum of distinction, from Nobel winning science and Olympic sport to Indigenous leadership, from music and film, to global advocacy and community service.

Did you know public nominations for the Order of BC are encouraged? My husband Sergio and I became members of the Order of BC in 2013 and 2015 for our work in community leadership, and it was so meaningful to be recognized. If you know someone doing extraordinary work in our province, nominations are being accepted up to April 2, 2027, for next year's group.

Of all the things that make BC so special, its people truly take the spotlight. BC is diverse, but something that I always seem to consistently see is the generosity and compassion of British Columbians from all over the province.

The BC Medal of Good Citizenship Award recognizes the people who embody selflessness and kindness without the expectation of anything in return.

Nominations for the Medal of Good Citizenship close April 7, 2026. Celebrate someone whose extraordinary kindness has made B.C. better.
