The Bowling Green terrace is Arne's more recent project to be transformed int

o an Elizabethan knot garden with borders brimming with traditional plants used for dying and medicines. The Haddon Restaurant serves locally sourced food, and is open to all, whether you visit the Hall or not. The Gatehouse Gift Shop sells a wide range of gifts, and is prides itself on stocking unusual and local lines.

The beautiful bombée glass in Haddon's Long Gallery windows continues to delight throughout the summer. There’s something wonderfully otherworldly about bombée glass — its gentle curves catching and bending the light, turning every view beyond into something softer, stranger and more beautiful.

Last week we were delighted to welcome Hanny Newton, Haddon Hall's very first Artist in Residence.
During her stay, Hanny spent time immersed in our Medieval Park, returning to grasses she had already gathered from the parkland. Exploring their unique properties, she carefully transformed them into beautifully spun thread – revealing the extraordinary potential of the natural landscape.
We're so excited to see how her time at Haddon continues to inspire future work. Watch this space...

Early light in the Great Chamber. When it’s hot and sunny outside, sometimes the hall is a welcome place of cool retreat.

Haddon's Great Chamber was built as a solar. A solar was the private family apartment in a medieval or Tudor house, set apart from the busy public rooms below. Warm, comfortable and often well lit, it provided a place to sleep, read, sew, pray or conduct personal business. It was a retreat where the household's owners could enjoy privacy and quiet. The huge windows in the Great Chamber make it one of the lightest parts of the hall.
