Are you the one who notices the details?
The curl of a new fern frond.
The pattern on a leaf.
The way the path changes when the light moves.
The tiny things most people walk past, but you somehow always spot.

The Victorian Fern Garden is full of those little moments.
It is cool, green, tucked away, and sitting above the waterfall walk as you climb up into the valley.

The sort of place where you might go in for a wander and come out with seventeen photos of leaves on your phone.

We get it.

And if ferns, gardens and quiet details are your thing, Fern Day is coming to Canonteign on Sunday 14 June, with Guided Fern Walks from fern specialist Julian Reed and a chance to celebrate our National Collection of Hardy Ferns.

Save this for the person who always stops to take the photo.

There is a very specific kind of Canonteign visit that starts with:
“We are only popping in for a coffee.”
And then somehow there is a little look in the shop.
And someone says, “Actually, this is a nice, isn’t it?”

A gentle reminder that you do not need an admission ticket to visit Canonteign Café or the shop.

So if you are local, meeting a friend, catching up with family, or just need a coffee somewhere that does not involve fluorescent lighting and a trolley situation, you are very welcome.

The café and shop are free to enter, with free parking too.

June at Canonteign.
A slower wander.
A waterfall view.
A little time to breathe.

Before summer gets noisy, this is your quieter Devon day out.

Save this for your next fresh air plan.

No, this way.
We have all been here. The lead is on, the dog has made their decision, and suddenly you are no longer in charge of the walk.
Lakes, woodland, fresh air and plenty to sniff make Canonteign a very good choice for dogs and their humans.

A lovely one to keep in mind for your next dog friendly day out in Devon.

How many Canonteign bridges can you find?
Here is a simple little challenge for your next visit.

As you wander through the estate, keep count of every bridge you cross, spot or very confidently claim definitely counts as a bridge.

There will probably be a family debate.
There may be a recount.
Someone will almost certainly be in charge of the official number.

It is a lovely way to turn a walk into a bit of an adventure.
So, next time you visit, count as you go and let us know how many Canonteign bridges your family finds.

Half term energy? Send them this way.

You know the kind.
The climbing, hanging, balancing, running, “watch me do this” energy that appears approximately five minutes after breakfast.

And while they are busy burning some of it off, the grown-ups get big views, fresh air and hopefully a few minutes to sit and take it all in.

If half term energy has fully arrived in your house, this might be your sign to bring it to Canonteign.

Who in your family would be first on the swinging bars?

Some treats feel extra special when they are made just for them.
After a morning of exploring, playing and running around in the fresh air, sitting down to their very own Children’s Afternoon Tea can feel like a proper little occasion.

Tiny sandwiches.
Sweet treats.
Big decisions about what to eat first.

It is a lovely way to add something extra to a May half-term visit, whether you are making a day of it at Canonteign or popping into the café for a treat.

Available from Canonteign Kitchen, which is free to enter, or as a gift voucher via our website.

Share this with someone whose children would love their own afternoon tea.

Every family has one.
The dinosaur hunter.
The fairy spotter.
The child who loves a fun fact.
The one who collects tiny “treasures” like they are curating a museum in their pocket.

If that sounds familiar, our children’s trails are a lovely one to pick up from admissions or add to your booking this May half term.

They give little explorers something to look for as they wander, whether they are hunting for dinosaurs, searching for fairies, spotting sculpted animals, or discovering a few Canonteign fun facts along the way.

It is a simple way to turn a walk into a mission.
And suddenly, “are we nearly there?” becomes “I found it!”

Which trail would your child love most: dinosaurs, fairies, fun facts, or animal spotting?

You are on holiday, the kids are already asking what you are doing today, and nobody has had breakfast yet.

A familiar start to a family day out.

This is where a Canonteign Kitchen breakfast bap comes in very handy.
One grown up orders the food. The other is already being gently pulled towards the playground before the coffee has even arrived.

If you are staying nearby this May half term, Canonteign is a handy Devon day out to have up your sleeve. Start with breakfast, let the children burn off some energy, then head out for waterfalls, woodland trails and fresh air.

The café and shop are free to enter, with free parking too, so you can pop in even if you are not visiting the estate that day.

Tag the grown up who always gets sent to the playground first.
