A reminder that the Sustainable Seas Festival is taking place this Saturday (20 June), 11am–5pm at East Quay, Exeter Canal Basin.

This free family-friendly event celebrates marine conservation and maritime heritage, with historic vessels, live music, talks, films, hands-on activities, a farmers’ market, and more. There’ll even be free coffee and pizza for participants!

An Amber Heat Health Alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency for the South West from midday today (Thursday 18 June) until 8pm on Tuesday 23 June.

High temperatures can affect anyone, but older people, young children, and those with existing health conditions are particularly at risk.

☀️ Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day
💧 Drink plenty of water and avoid dehydration
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains and blinds in sunny rooms
👥 Check on elderly relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends
🚗 Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles

Take extra care if you're spending time near water. Warm weather can increase the risk of cold-water shock and drowning incidents.

Please look out for one another and stay safe during the hot weather.

We're asking local families, children and residents for their views on proposed upgrades at Heavitree Pleasure Ground, Harrington Lane and Horseguards play areas.

Your feedback will help shape fun, inclusive and accessible spaces for local children to enjoy. The survey is open until 24 July.

A quick update on the Heavitree paddling pools.

Unfortunately, the pools have had to close after ageing equipment failed and can no longer operate reliably. The good news is that work on brand-new upgraded pool will now start sooner than planned, with the aim of opening the new facility by the end of the summer.

In the meantime, families can still enjoy the Splashpad in St Thomas. Thanks for your patience while this improvement work gets underway.

Exeter’s Armed Forces Day parade takes place this Saturday, with service personnel, veterans, cadets and military associations marching through the city centre from 11am.

The parade will travel from Sidwell Street to the Cathedral, with live performances from the Barnstaple Youth Band and the Salamanca Band of The Rifles. A big thank you to Exeter Brewery for once again supporting the event and helping us honour those who serve, and have served, our country.
