eCops - Silent 999 calls - Press 55 if you can't speak in a genuine emergency

Did you know if you call 999 from a mobile phone and can't speak, you can press 55 to let us know it's a genuine emergency?

That's exactly what happened when a lady called us from a property in Huntingdon reporting her former partner was outside her house demanding to be let in.

She pressed the keypad twice and officers were dispatched after knocking could be heard. The man ran away when the officers arrived and the officers then completed a Domestic Abuse Risk Assessment for the victim.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has launched a public engagement on proposed changes to local bus services, and we would be grateful for your support in helping to raise awareness within your community.

The proposals have been developed following a review of bus services currently funded by the Combined Authority. At this stage, no decisions have been made. We want to hear directly from the people who use these services, or may rely on them in future, so that feedback can help inform any final decisions.

A Certificate of Lawfulness application is for the applicant to prove that the use has been carried out, without interruption, for a period of years. Planning law gives immunity to unauthorised uses or breaches of planning conditions that have prevailed for four or ten years without enforcement action taken against them dependant on the type of development.

Evidence submitted needs to be assessed by the Local Planning Authority (LPA) on a purely factual rather than interpretative bases. Taking appropriate legal advice the options available to the LPA are that it can either agree or disagree with the basis of those submissions i.e. that the activity in question has become lawful due to the required passage of time or that it has not.

Residents can submit any comments they care to make direct on
Huntingdonshire District Council’s Web site. Alternatively, you may submit comments by e-mail to; [email protected].

Huntingdonshire District Council deadline to receive comments by is the 25th June 2026.

Please note a CLEUD is a legal determination made by the Local Planning Authority. It confirms whether an existing use or development is lawful under planning legislation. It is not a planning application, and comments must relate only to matters of lawfulness, not planning opinion.

Residents who wish to submit comments directly to the Local Planning Authority should do so using the official method provided within the application information.

Local Highways Bid 2023 - 2024 - UPDATE

As part of the Parish Councils successful Local Highways Bid (LHI), we have been informed that installation of the new MVAS post, along with 30mph roundels on Thrapston Road Grafham Road, is scheduled to take place between 10 and 11 June 2026.

The designs for these works was pre-approved by all parties, and no changes can be made at this stage.

We apologise for the short notice. We hope residents will understand that any minor delays caused by the works will support the village's ongoing efforts to take speeding and improve road safety.

Additional Sites Allocations for Local Plan to 2046

Huntingdonshire District Council Update -

Representations made on the original Preferred Options draft Local Plan have led to the re evaluation of a number of sites. A collection of smaller additional sites have been identified that could be suitable for allocation. Adding these to the pre-submission Local Plan would give greater resilience to the local plan development strategy and assist with maintaining the 5 year housing land supply required by government.

The following small site is proposed to be included as additional draft allocations in Huntingdonshire's Local Plan to 2046. Details below identifies the sites and the key reasons why they are being considered. Comments received on these sites during the Land Availability Assessment consultation between 18 September 2024 and 27 November 2024 have been taken into account in the production of the proposed allocations.

Additional information was submitted as an objection to the Preferred Options draft Local Plan consultation to indicate how the site could be successfully delivered for the potential higher capacity. Huntingdonshire District Council reviewed all proposed allocations and all sites excluded from the Preferred Options Draft but which we had previously assessed as potentially suitable where additional evidence was submitted and this has led to the small number of extra sites now published for consultation. (We are focusing primarily on additional small sites to boost the short-term supply of housing which will assist with the balance of the overall strategy).

Site Draft Allocation Ellington 2 - Land west of Grafham Road, Ellington

1.87 ha of land west of Grafham Road, Ellington is allocated for residential development of about 35 homes.

Successful development of the site will require:

Provision of high quality design which reflects the character of the area
A landscape scheme that includes the retention of existing landscape features, trees and shrubs to create a mature setting to development
Provision of a proportionate flood risk assessment and drainage strategy, taking into account residual risk from culvert and surface water flood risk including climate change
Early engagement and agreement with the Council in liaison with the Environment Agency and Anglian Water Services that waste water flows from the proposal can be accommodated.

Additional Sites Allocations for Local Plan to 2046 will be available for you to view and comment between the following dates:

National Highways - UPDATE: Important roadwork information
A1 southbound between Buckden and Hail Weston Bridge – maintenance work

Dear Customer

We’re writing to let you know that we are moving onto the next phase of maintenance work on the A1 which will between Buckden and Hail Weston Bridge. This work will involve renewal of road markings and road studs also known as cat’s eyes, crack repairs and replacement of marker posts. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.

We will carry out this work over four nights from Thursday 4 June 2026. We’ll work overnight between 9pm and 5am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

We have identified further maintenance work that needs to be completed. We’ll need additional night shifts towards the end of June. We’ll share more details about these dates as soon as they are confirmed.

Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A1 southbound between Buckden and Hail Weston Bridge, and divert traffic as detailed below:
Drivers travelling southbound on the A1 should:
leave the A1 at Brampton Hut Interchange and join the A14
continue on the A14 to junction 23, Ermine Street Interchange
take the third exit onto the A1198
continue on the A1198 to the A428 / Ermine Street South roundabout
take the third exit onto the A428
continue on the A428 to Wyboston Roundabout
take the first exit onto Great North Road
rejoin the A1 southbound
The crossover at Diddington will stay open for access to the village, so northbound traffic will not be affected.
