The Inverness Q***r Book Club will meet this Thursday at the Inverness Library to discuss ‘Young Mungo’. Even if you haven’t read the book you are welcome to join, meet new people, and discover next month’s title – In the Dream House!

The club meets the 1st Thursday of every month to celebrate and discuss q***r authors and stories!

☀️ That's a wrap on summer at HLH Libraries! What a whirlwind of activities, creativity, and fun we've had.

Our libraries experienced a flurry of creativity with craft projects, zine making, art activism exhibitions, LEGO clubs, and Dungeons & Dragons worldbuilding.

With our trusty Nature Explorer Backpacks, we discovered local wildlife, caught moths at the library, and grew our own veggies.

And of course, we celebrated reading with the numerous participants who took part in the Summer Reading Challenge – well done all!

A huge thank you to our staff, partners, volunteers and, of course, everyone who came along and made this summer so special. We can't wait to see you at our upcoming events!

A public consultation for the inclusion of Beauly Library into the proposed new Primary School and community campus west of Cnoc na Rath will be running from 31st August until Friday 11th September.

It is proposed to move the public library from its existing location at the Phipps Hall to the site of the new Primary School and Community Campus, creating a new community Library.

We will be hosting information sessions at the Library on;
· Monday 31/08/2026 17:00 – 20:00
· Thursday 03/09/2026 14:00-16:30
· Tuesday 08/09/2026 10:00-12:30
· Wednesday 09/09/2026 12:00-14:30

We would welcome your feedback on the proposal. To leave feedback or comments please complete the Library Consultation Form online or by picking up a paper copy and submitting it to Beauly Library.

Scotland's national poet, Peter Mackay (Pàdraig MacAoidh), will visit Bettyhill Library on Friday 4 September for a special evening celebrating literature, language and culture as part of the Blas Festival Fringe.

An Evening with Peter Mackay will take place at 7.30pm and offers audiences the opportunity to hear from one of Scotland's leading literary voices in an informal community setting.

Blas Festival runs from 4 to 12 September and showcases Highland culture, language and the arts through a varied programme of events across the region.

The Nairn Book and Arts Festival is coming to Nairn Library!

Join us tomorrow for a magical storytelling session for the whole family with Jonathan Findlay and Paul Hibberd, two skilled and engaging storytellers. Jonathan will share STUFF, a poetic tale of hoarding set in a Scottish castle, while Paul brings traditional myths, legends and creation stories from around the world to life. His stories explore themes of nature, wildlife and our connection to the world around us.

Then on Monday, join Heather Blackley and Caitlin Ogilvie for a creative writing workshop all about worldbuilding. Discover different approaches to creating engaging fictional worlds, then start building the foundations of your own. Whether your setting is inspired by the real world or something entirely imagined, all ideas and experience levels are welcome. 📚✨

Sarah is an award-winning clothier and maker with a lifelong passion for fashion, vintage upcycling and make-do-and-mend. She brings years of experience, creativity and expert advice to every session.

Just bring your clothing questions, and if you wish, the garments that need a little TLC.
