If you're visiting the hospital over the August Bank Holiday weekend, please be aware that essential maintenance works will be taking place in the multi-storey car park (car park B) between 29 and 31 August.

29-30 August: Upper deck closed (colleagues please use car park E)
31 August: Lower deck closed (For today only, visitors can use the staff car park upstairs - please follow the signs and pay as usual).

Please allow extra time for parking and getting to your appointment.

Accessing NHS services over the bank holiday weekend.

💊 For advice and treatment for minor illnesses go to your local pharmacy. Search ‘find a pharmacy NHS’ online to find your nearest one.

👩‍⚕️If you need to, you can contact your GP as normal. If they have different opening hours, or are closed, use NHS111.

📲 For urgent medical help, you can access NHS111 by calling, going online or using the NHS app.

🦷 If you think you need urgent dental treatment, contact your usual dentist. If you don’t have one, use NHS 111. If an urgent appointment is needed, you will be provided with details of your local out-of-hours dental service.

Meet Dio a five-year-old Cavapoo – he’s also a therapy dog who has been visiting our Skylark ward with his owner Lisa. This was organised by the KGH Play Team

For his first visit Lisa and Dio sat in the play area on the ward, with parents and young people visiting the curly-haired canine. With the pair also making one-on-one visits with patients at their bedside, who gave Dio pats and offered him treats.

Lisa explained what it was like for Dio to visit our hospital for the first time:
“It was lovely. He’s a natural. He likes all of the fuss he gets from the patients – plus the treats he gets for being a good boy. He did very well considering it was brand new environment for him.”

Remember to order your prescriptions early for the upcoming bank holiday weekend.

To avoid delays in getting your medicines over the bank holiday, order your prescriptions in good time.

You can order repeat prescriptions through the NHS App or your GP surgery.

Congratulations to Linda who is the latest winner of Star Award. 🎉

Healthcare Assistant Linda was nominated by the family of a patient living with dementia. Her warmth, kindness and reassurance made a difficult and distressing time feel calmer for both the patient and their loved ones.

The family described the moment Linda approached with a smile, addressed the patient by name and looked kindly into his eyes, calling her “a real-life angel”.

The nomination summed it up beautifully: “I cannot really put into words our appreciation and gratitude. I truly think this lady should have a Star Award.”

Linda’s reaction to winning? Two simple words: “It’s smashing.”

Thank you, Linda, for showing the impact that compassion, dignity and kindness can have on patients and families when they need it most.

End-of-life team members who helped hundreds of our hospital staff prepare for the major change to Northamptonshire’s new county mortuary have been awarded a Cavell Star award for their efforts.

Cavell Star Awards are national recognitions given to nurses, midwives, nursing associates, and healthcare assistants, who shine bright and show exceptional care or support.

Palliative and End of Life Care Practice Educators, Francesca Bell, from KGH and Michelle De Fusco, from NGH, were presented with the award by UHN Interim Group Chief Nurse Robin Binks.
Michelle and Fran were nominated for the award by NGH's Deputy Lead Nurse for End-of-Life Care, Kerry Messam for the way that they designed, led, and delivered a comprehensive education programme.

Over three months they updated 2,474 staff virtually and 473 staff through face-to-face sessions.
