49000 mainly military aged male migrants attempted to storm the Spanish border yesterday. Thousands more will try again today and tommorow. Many will then make their way onto the Spanish mainland, through France and up to Calais to board a dinghy bound for the UK.

Burnham if he's serious about immigration needs to declare a national emergency. Hundreds are crossing on boats per week, thousands over the last few years.

Saddened to learn today that Councillor Roger Jackson has passed away. I found Roger to be collegiate, a gentlemen and a much
respected Councillor who provided me with great advice and guidance regarding an issue local to our divisions which neighbour one another. My sincere condolences to Rogers wife, family and friends as well as colleagues in the Conservative group. Rest in Peace.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our friend and great colleague, Councillor Roger Jackson, who sadly passed away at home this morning following his long and courageous battle with cancer.

Roger was a true local champion for his beloved communities. He had served the residents of Dover Beck Ward on Newark and Sherwood District Council for more than 20 years, as well as representing the Southwell Division on Nottinghamshire County Council, always working tirelessly to deliver for the people he represented and doing so with great distinction.

During Roger’s more than 10 years of service on Nottinghamshire County Council he made an enormous contribution to the life of the county and was an outstanding Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council in 2022-23, representing the county with dignity, warmth and pride and raising £27,000 for the Nottingham Ukrainian Cultural Centre, part of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.

As a County Councillor, Roger was also fundamental in securing a number of important improvements for his communities. These included the £26 million flood storage reservoir scheme in Lowdham, which is helping to protect households from flooding, as well as a Southwell Flood Alleviation Scheme, £1 million feasibility study into traffic lights or a roundabout at Gunthorpe. He also worked hard to secure improvements including a pedestrian crossing at Bulcote, resurfacing of the A612 to Lowdham and the A6097 Epperstone Road and Lowdham Road, resurfacing of Gunthorpe Main Street and resurfacing of Nottingham Road near Southwell Leisure Centre. These projects are a lasting testament to Roger’s determination to get things done and improve the lives of the people he represented.

Roger also served on Newark and Sherwood District Council for over 23 years, following in his Father's footsteps. During his time at NSDC, Roger held a number of senior positions, including Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group, Vice-Chairman of the Council, and Portfolio Holder for Cleaner, Safer, Greener. Roger played an important role in envrionmental and community initiatives, and was particularly committed to tackling flooding, fly tipping, anti-social behaviour and the provision of local services in rural areas.

Even earlier this week, Roger dialled into a council meeting and was still making sure that projects were being delivered — a testament to his incredible dedication and commitment to his communities right to the very end.

Colleagues knew Roger to be a gentleman - a conscientious, well known and well respected councillor. He will be deeply missed by us, by his many friends and colleagues across local government, and by the communities he served so faithfully.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Roger’s wife, Jilly, and his family at this incredibly difficult time.

Summer Reading Challenge - Inspire Libraries in Nottinghamshire.

Inspire Nottinghamshire Libraries are inspiring children to explore the rhythm and melody of reading in the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge. Read to the Beat will celebrate music & sound – exploring how music and storytelling unite.

Children are invited to borrow and read library books over the summer. There are stickers to collect, with a medal and certificate for those who complete six reading goals (that they choose!).

The Summer Reading Challenge is a great opportunity for children to find books they love (and for the adults too!) They choose what they want to read – story books, information books, e-books, audio books, poetry, comic, joke books, and graphic novels, all reading counts –children set the tempo!

What a great job with the resurfacing work in Gedling Village over the last few weeks. Starting at Shearing Hill then onto Main Road and the Mini Roundabout then carrying on up Arnold Lane, the road surface has been transformed by this works after years and years of neglect.

The roads in Gedling Village had been ignored for years prior and it was quite obvious to me that they had. Well, not on my watch they wouldn't be. Whilst there is always more to be done I'm really pleased that we've made a great progress here.

Road by Road, Street by Street, Nottinghamshire's highways are getting an unprecedented level of investment, unlike anything seen before under previous administrations. The Reform Way!

I've been speaking with some residents on Chandos Street in Netherfield since last year which has unfortunately become Nottinghamshire's HMO capital. As a County Councillor I'm unable to influence Planning Policy but the Labour and Tory Councillors who sit on Gedling Borough Council who can have consistently been ignoring their plight. Residents are at their wits end and are understandably scared that their neighborhood is being ran into the ground.

Great to see that they've have taken their fight national and GB News has finally ran the story. Labour controlled Gedling Borough Council need to introduce an Article 4 direction now that requires landlords to get planning permission to convert a house into an HMO.

Yesterday, while the highways teams were out repainting the white lines on Main Street in Calverton, one impatient driver ignored the traffic management and drove straight over the freshly painted lines while they were still wet, causing this mess.

This wasn't the fault of the teams who were out doing their job. It was the result of one driver's actions, and it means more taxpayers' money has had to be spent putting it right.

The lads have been back out again today redoing yesterday's work, which has also delayed other jobs. Despite the hot weather and the setback, they've done a fantastic job. A big thank you to the highways team for getting it sorted.

Please respect traffic management. It's there for a reason.

One of our hard working volunteers in Gedling was today physically assaulted in the street whilst out delivering Reform UK leaflets. This is totally unacceptable in a democratic society. The volunteer is understandably very shaken.

The perpetrator should be ashamed of their vile disgusting behavior. We will not be dettered and if anything this increases our will to succeed. We will not surrender to left wing fascist thugs who think it's acceptable to attack volunteers partaking in the democratic process.

The Police have been informed.
