At today's full council we unanimously passed an amended motion on the growing problem of illegal e-bikes and e-scooters.

And just to be clear, not everyone on an e-bike is an anti social yob. Plenty of people use them perfectly legally and responsibly. But we do have a problem with people using illegal and modified bikes, some of them stolen, causing anti-social behaviour, intimidating people and generally being a menace in our communities.

The motion brings together the Police, Trading Standards, councils and our community safety teams, as well as asking Government to look at whether the law needs tightening up.

Cllr Mike Robertson moved our amendment, seconded by Cllr Richard Darrington, and credit to the opposition for originally bringing the issue to Council.

A good bit of cross-party working. We won't agree on everything, obviously, but on things like this we absolutely should be able to work together and get something done.

Picture the scene. You work hard all year. You’re taxed to the max on what you earn, taxed on what you spend, taxed on what you save, fuel costs a fortune and everywhere you go someone wants your money.

But you manage to save up for a cheeky night away in a hotel with your other half. A bit of time together, a little treat, something you’ve worked for and both look forward to.

You finally get there, nice meal, glass of w**e, settle down for the night and then, just as you’re about to enjoy yourselves, East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward appears at the end of the bed with her hand out, demanding another bit of your money. A hotel tax. This is what she is proposing.

Seriously, can Labour just not stop taxing people? They really are the fun police. Do they look around at everything ordinary working people do and think and say, “let's tax that”

It's right to ask where has this money gone? What have we got for this debt? Rampant crime, unchecked immigration, a worsening health service and a country that's essentially unable to defend itself.

We are heading for a winter of discontent, if not worse. I've Just paid £1.99 for a litre of Diesel. These prices are through the roof now. Burnham and the chancellor need to face facts. Its time to lower fuel duty substantially as these costs are now unsustainable for the average motorist.
