A-Level results day!!🎓🎉

No matter what your results say today, you have accomplished so much in the build up to this. Whether you are now counting down the days until moving to university, or still working out your next move, there is more to further education than sitting in lecture theatres.

MSUOTC is where students from across Manchester and Salford based universities come together and get paid to train together, bond with others, create life long friendships and memories, and to gain valuable experience that employers won’t ignore. We do all of this alongside your degree!

Are you ready to be more than your degree?

The urban training phase of Exercise Sennelager Stretch on ADX26 has come to a close. Our troops learned how to assault enemy positions, clear buildings, and move within the urban environment. The phase ended with company attacks on an urban training village in Germany where the exercise is taking place.

As a part of “Exercise Sennelager Stretch” on ADX26, our Officer Cadets had the opportunity to visit Augustdorf Barracks and work alongside the German army in a set of training experiences. Our members rehearsed their battlefield casualty treatment and evacuation, practiced advancing to contact from German military vehicles, explored and learned about the training aircraft that are used, and drove tank simulators during the visit! The day was rounded off with a classic German barbecue from our hosts, ending a day of exciting new experiences, great new friendships with our German allies, and much excitement for the rest of our exercise!

Last week five of our OCdts attended the Army Servicewomen’s Conference in Cheltenham. The day started with a range of panel discussions, with topics including women’s health, kit and equipment and resilience. Our OCdts found the experiences and insights shared by the panellists to be inspiring, honest and informative. Later, they attended breakout rooms and discussions from a range of different networks including Army Sport, fitness and conditioning, dealing with health whilst in service, and addressing structural and social barriers faced by women across the Armed Forces.
Our OCdts left the conference feeling more informed and connected to other servicewomen and servicemen across the Army, and was an overall positive and engaging experience.

OCdt Forbes-Laird represented the Army Running Team at the British Armed Forces 10km Championships in Nottingham, competing against teams from the RAF and Royal Navy. The event also served as the Army Inter-Corps 10km Championships, providing the opportunity to compete within the Army while representing the UOTC Corps.

She completed the race in an impressive 41 minutes, securing 3rd place in the British Armed Forces Under-23 category and 2nd place in the Army Under-23 category. The Army team went on to win the overall championship. Congratulations to OCdt Forbes-Laird on an excellent performance and a fantastic achievement.

Officer Cadet Scotton attended the Army Festival of Climbing in North Wales, which featured both outdoor climbing and indoor competitions. The festival began with a day of sea-cliff multi-pitch climbing on Anglesey.

The indoor competition started with six top-rope qualifying climbs on day one. Day two consisted of a bouldering competition, followed by a talk from professional climber Hazel Findlay. The final day featured the semi-finals and finals, where Officer Cadet Scotton competed in the elite category.

He achieved outstanding results, winning the bouldering competition, the Men’s Under-25 Lead category, and the Men’s Elite Lead overall title. Well done! 🏆

Five of our Officer Cadets went to Kinloss in Scotland to complete the Inland Kayaking Foundation (K2F) course. Over the week, they progressed from learning the fundamentals of paddling to confidently traversing Grade 2 white-water rapids.

For most of the group, this was their first Adventure Training course, and they embraced every challenge thrown at them. Throughout the week they pushed themselves outside their comfort zones, taking on demanding features such as the “Washing Machine” on the River Spey, and performed exceptionally well throughout the course.
