The community in Newport came together for a fantastic fun day held at the Newport Community Hub.

There was something for everyone with bouncy castles, football, ice cream, face painting and henna artists.

The celebrations continued with a lively disco that proved a hit with both children and adults.

A massive thank you to our north neighbourhood team, who have been instrumental in hosting community fun days in the area, and all the partners and volunteers who helped make the event such a success.

And thank you to volunteers Ayodeji and Hillary for capturing and creating content.

We'll see you at the Christmas event!

From supporting community events to helping care for local green spaces, there are plenty of ways to get involved in Middlesbrough this Volunteers' Week.

We encourage our residents to discover the benefits of volunteering and explore the opportunities available across Middlesbrough.

Current roles include Community Volunteers based at Newport, North Ormesby and Thorntree Community Hubs.

Volunteers can help to support local activities, events and neighbourhood projects.

There are also opportunities to get outdoors by joining volunteer groups that help care for treasured green spaces including Blue Bell Beck, Fairy Dell, Linthorpe Cemetery and Nature's World.

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, boost confidence and make a positive impact in your community.

Find out more about volunteering opportunities in Middlesbrough and how to get involved by visiting: https://www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/community-support/volunteering-for-middlesbrough/

♻️ The following areas should receive their bins this month:

🏠 Park End and Beckfield
🏠 Berwick Hills and Pallister - east of Ormesby Road
🏠 Brambles and Thorntree
🏠 North Ormesby
🏠 Central
🏠 Newport

Some homes in these areas may have food caddies already – if that’s you, then we’ll be delivering some clear and red recycling sacks to your home soon.

If you don’t have food waste caddies already then, this month, you will get a red-lid bin, two food caddies, a roll of caddy liners, an instruction booklet and a sticker for your red-lid bin.

To let you know when you'll get yours, our crews will tag your existing bins around two weeks before delivery.

If we can, we'll put them on your property rather than on the pavement outside your house. For example, behind your garden gate or on your driveway.

These bins and sacks are for our new, free weekly food waste recycling collections and fortnightly separate paper and cardboard recycling collections that will be starting in July.

Please keep everything safe until collections start next month.

Thank you! đź’š

Residents and council staff chipped in to help transform an outdoor space in Thorntree.

The team at Thorntree Community Hub were also joined by Groundwork NE & Cumbria to w**d and prepare the area outside the building ready for new plants.

Groundwork helped show residents a range of new skills including gardening, ground maintenance and planting - with locals volunterring to water and maintain the refreshed gardens.

Neighbourhood caretakers from our east neighbourhood team also got involved and brought their strimmers to help.

The space will be enjoyed at a community fun day on August 6 - we hope to see you there.

Ahead of National Carers Week (8-14 June), we’re encouraging everyone to support unpaid carers across our area by signing the South Tees Carers Pledge.

A carer is anyone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour who needs assistance because of an illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction. At some point in our lives, many of us will care for someone we love.

Across South Tees, there are 30,000 unpaid carers and the pledge is about making sure carers feel valued and can get the help they need.

There is support for unpaid carers in Middlesbrough – if you or someone you know needs help, contact our Adult Social Care team on 01642 065070.

Or visit our website to find out more 👇

Food with an international flavour, sports and crafts were all on offer at a Cultural Fiesta in south Middlesbrough.

Our south neighbourhood team hosted the celebration of culture at Nunthorpe and Marton playing fields last week.

An incredible selection of food featured flavours from the Netherlands, Romania, Mexico and beyond.

A firm favourite was the delicious range from Just Love Pies who served up everything from chicken tikka and chilli to a slice of Teesside culture with a Parmo pie.

The event was packed with activities for all ages, including crafts, sports and games, as well as a talented henna artist creating beautiful designs throughout the day.

Entertainment came from the fantastic Los Tropicanos, whose Latin and Mediterranean performances were a massive hit with the crowd.

The Fiesta was also joined by our Waste Engagement Officers who were on hand to give support and advice to residents about upcoming changes to recycling and food waste collections.

Cleveland Police were also joined by the National Literacy Trust, who kindly handed out books for families to take home and enjoy.

Lego creativity on show at Grove Hill Community Hub.

During half term, the hub hosted a Lego party which saw children take part in creative challenges led by the amazing Jess who works at Middlesbrough Central Library

This week, Grove Hill Community Hub hosted an exciting Lego party, where children took part in creative challenges led by the amazing Jess from Central Library.

From speed building the tallest towers to constructing masterpieces using their non-dominant hand, the children had a fantastic time putting their creativity to the test and the results were incredible.

If your child loves getting creative, why not join Grove Hill's weekly LEGO Clubs? They are held every Friday during term time from 3.15pm to 4.15pm and are suitable for children aged four and up.
