On Saturday April 25th, the very wonderful and great fun, Suzanne Newman, is running a fun singing session for female voices
medley of songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and medley from Pocahontas. I was mean to go but unfortunately, due to travel, am now unable to do. I offered to see if anyone else wanted to book my place/other places. It really is great fun. No pressure and no expectation of musical ability. It costs £15 including music and refreshments and is from 2 to 4pm at
Charvil Village Hall.

🎉 We won! Planning application PP-14593573 REFUSED on 8 grounds! 🎉

We are so proud to live in a place that is, and always has been, genuinely special — a rare corner of rural England where the fields, the lanes, and the open countryside still define who we are. Today’s decision helps keep it that way, not just for us, but for the generations who will call this place home long after us.

This result belongs to all of you. To everyone who submitted a formal objection, signed the petition, opened their door to a leaflet, or simply spread the word — thank you. 85 formal objections and over 600 petition signatures were recorded by the planning officer, and every single one counted.

Particular thanks go to:
🏏 Waltham St Lawrence Cricket Club — whose evidence on the impact to the Yeo Memorial Ground was decisive, resulting in a standalone refusal ground.
🏡 Waltham St Lawrence Parish Council — for their rigorous and thorough formal objection throughout this process.
👏 Councillors Maureen and George — for their support and for ensuring residents’ voices were heard at every stage.
💪 Our steering group — who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate the campaign, gather evidence, and keep the community informed.
What next? The developer has the right to appeal within six months, so this may not be completely over. We will be watching closely and will update you if anything changes. For now though — this is a wonderful result for Shurlock Row. 🌿

📢 UPDATE — Planning Application PP-14593573, Shurlock Row

Yesterday, the developer submitted a late rebuttal document of 26 pages to the planning portal, responding to objections raised by the Parish Council and local residents. This was after the date for submitting objections, only 3 working days ahead of the determination date of 24 March, and also on the eve of Eid (the Planning Officer and other RBWM staff appear not to be working today, potentially the rebuttal was given less scrutiny because of this).

The rebuttal included accusations against our Parish Council (twice called disingenuous), direct implications against Maureen Hunt, and contained 11 emails between the Parish Council, Village Charities, other charities and Housing Solutions on how they might help a household in peril. These emails were assumed to be private, and contained very personal details about the household concerned. A number of those parties on the emails have confirmed that they did not consent to the leak and are extremely unhappy about what has occurred.

Concerns have been raised directly with RBWM that the document contained private email correspondence - including personal and sensitive information - which appeared to have been published without their knowledge or consent. A formal written concern was submitted to the case officer today, citing potential breaches of UK data protection law.

We are pleased to report that RBWM responded promptly and has now removed the document from the public planning portal. The council has confirmed it will be looking into the concerns raised. I hope that the appropriate parties in the village will seek to understand how this information got into the developer’s hands.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign and helped to hold this process to account. 🙏

The planning application for 4 dwellings at nearby Oak Farm on the Binfield Road was rejected last night for inappropriate development of the greenbelt and "the introduction of a discordant, suburban stle development which would be out of keeping with and harmful to, the established rural character and appearance of the area."
