‘The staff are friendly and kind. They let us hold a little lantern. Keep up the good work! I would 100% come here if you like friendly staff!’

⭐Coming soon: Kairos Botanical Collage Workshop with Louisa Boyd - Artist! ⭐

This workshop will be inspired by Louisa's own body of work, which is currently on display in our East Wing exhibition, Your Salford 100: Contemporary Narratives!

Participants will use reference material to choose a flower that they would like to illustrate and find out its blooming seasons. Using a circular format to identify the months of the year, paper collage pieces will then be added with colours that show when the flowers are in bloom.

We’ve been out and about again at Peel Park in Little Hulton – working on our Live Well project with CommUNITY Little Hulton and Little Hulton Live Well.

Live Well is Greater Manchester’s movement for community-led health and wellbeing.

For this project, we passed the mic to local artists .maisie, .esk and BethanKimages. They’ve been talking with people in Little Hulton about how play, creativity and community help us all to live well. We’re inspired by what Brian Eno has said about creativity: ‘Play is how children learn. Art his how adults play.’

We’re now reflecting on what people have told us – about how creativity brings people together. We’re also thinking about the objects we have in our collection from areas like Little Hulton. And the connection between these and people’s memories. How can museums be more playful and social spaces? How can museums be a place we share more local memories and connections?

Watch this space for our next Live Well update coming soon. And share your thoughts in the comments below.

Don't miss Museum Memento, currently on display in our community cases!

Museum Memento is an exhibition that explores the rich history of Salford Museum and Art Gallery.

Through the personal memories of local visitors and an intimate insight into the staff that help run it, both past and present, this exhibition creates a physical space where the community can connect through local history.

The exhibition will be on display until Sunday 5th July!

Niamh Lafferty is a documentary photographer based in the Northwest of England. Her main photographic practice focuses on the subjects of time, memory and place. After graduating from the University of Salford in 2022, she has been focusing on the theme of nostalgia and the role it plays in a person’s development through life.

Join artist Dawn Woolley to create small sculptures using recycled materials, inspired by her own work.

Dawn’s latest exhibition ‘Relics: Objects of Devotion for Contemporary Life’ is currently on display in our North Gallery and features a new series of Relics artefacts made from rubbish collected between the gallery and Manchester Victoria station.

For this workshop, participants will be able to create their own relic sculptures using a wide selection of recycled materials including cardboard, plastic bottles, bags and more.

All materials have been sourced by museum staff and cleaned prior to the session! Dawn will lead visitors through her process and provide expert guidance on working with these materials.

The activity will be a great opportunity to look at everyday objects in a creative context, while simultaneously considering the wider impacts of consumerism.

Saturday July 25th 2026
12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
All materials provided, no experience required. Ages 18 + years.
£7 per person, booking required.
