We’re currently recruiting On Call Firefighters at Wareham Fire Station, with a particular need for people who can offer availability at weekends.

This is a paid, part-time role that gives you the opportunity to:

So I’ll leave the final word to Watch Manager Brian Baker, who leaves Wareham Fire Station today after an incredible 32 years in the Fire Service.

At 8pm tonight, Brian hangs up his tunic for the final time and hands back his pager. 📟

After an incredible 32 years of service, Brian hangs up his tunic for the very last time at 8pm tonight at Wareham Fire Station.

Brian has been a true stalwart of our operations and will be sadly missed by all the crew. We wish him a long and happy retirement — with plenty of pizza 🍕 and Rocky Road cake! 🍰

We’re going to need a lot of firefighters to replace Brian! 😄

🚒 Today we say a very special farewell to Watch Manager Brian Baker! ❤️

After an incredible 32 years of service across several Fire & Rescue Services, Brian hangs up his tunic for the very last time at 8pm tonight at Wareham Fire Station.

Brian has been a true stalwart of our operations at Wareham and will be sadly missed by all the crew. We wish him every happiness in his well-deserved retirement.

And, of course, no farewell would be complete without mentioning Brian’s love of pizza 🍕 and Rocky Road cake! 🍰

We’ll be sharing photos throughout the day to celebrate Brian’s amazing career and the memories he’s made.

APPEAL | We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information following a fire involving a barn in East Lulworth.

Dorset Police received a report from the fire service at 3.20am on Saturday 15 August 2026 regarding the fire involving bales of hay in a barn, which also spread to a nearby unoccupied property.

The fire service has brought the fire under control and enquiries to establish the cause of the fire remain ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Erin Kinghorn, of Dorset County CID, said: "At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined. Enquiries are ongoing, and we continue to liaise with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service as part of our investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“I would urge any witnesses, or anyone with information relating to any individual who may be responsible for this fire, to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnesses any suspicious activity in the surrounding area during the early hours of Saturday 15 August, or captured any relevant footage on dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell cameras.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260126732. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
