South Korean Parliamentary Delegation Explores Infrastructure and Investment Opportunities with Ghana

A delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, led by First Deputy Speaker H.E. Park Duk Hyum, paid a courtesy call on the Parliament of Ghana to strengthen bilateral relations and explore investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure. The delegation, which included Members of the Korean National Assembly and representatives of ten Korean infrastructure companies, was received by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor. H.E. Park encouraged greater Korean investment in Ghana, while Hon. Ahiafor highlighted the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries since 1977 and expressed optimism about deepening cooperation.

During the meeting, the Chief Partnership Officer of the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Secretariat, Dr. Ishmael Nii Amanor Dodoo, presented Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy agenda as a strategy to drive industrialisation, boost exports, and create jobs. He invited Korean businesses to take advantage of the opportunities under the initiative.

PARLIAMENT CONCLUDES COMMENTARY ON MID-YEAR BUDGET REVIEW

The Minority and Majority Leaders, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin and Hon. Mahama Ayariga respectively have summed-up concerns, sentiments and views of their Members on the Mid-Year Review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government of Ghana for the 2026 Financial Year presented by the Finance Ministe, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson on Thursday 23rd July 2026.

According to the Minority Leader, the presentation by the Finance for Minister is nothing but rhetorics to the extent that there are no new jobs, high prices of food, transportation, rents and electricity tariffs have increased by 30% in one and half years.

However, the Majority Leader debunked the assertion by his colleague on the other side, noting that the previous government rather spent a lot of funds on projects like the Cathedral and the ambitious agenda 111 that they could not complete.

He commended the Finance Minister for making the debt sustainability better, improving the economy as well as making reserves much stronger.

BUNKPURUGU MP PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE FORMER MP HON. DUUT EMMANUEL KWAME

The Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu, Hon. Abed-Nego Lamangin Bandim has paid tribute to the former Member of Parliament for the then Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Constituency, the late Hon. Duut Emmanuel Kwame, describing him as a humble and dedicated public servant.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament, Hon. Bandim said the late former MP affectionately known as “Teacher Yupiong” which means “Teacher with gray hair” devoted nearly 30 years to education before serving in Parliament, where he continued to support students and vulnerable people with integrity and compassion.

He extended condolences to the family, the people of Bunkpurugu, the National Democratic Congress and all who are mourning his passing, and called on the House to observe a minute silence in honour of the late former legislator.

Health Committee Chairman Calls for Stronger Fight Against Hepatitis

The Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, Hon. Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane has called for stronger national efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis describing the disease as a major public health challenge in Ghana.

Making a statement on the floor of Parliament to mark World Hepatitis Day 2026, he urged increased investment in public education, screening, vaccination and affordable treatment. He also called on Parliament to support policies that will improve access to hepatitis services, especially in rural communities.

Hon. Nawaane appealed to government and stakeholders to work together to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030.
