🤖 Advancing Responsible AI Governance in Ghana

NITA is pleased to highlight new research featured in the AMCIS 2026 Proceedings, examining the competencies needed to support effective and responsible AI governance in Ghana.

Titled “Ethical Awareness or Technical Skills: An Analysis of AI Governance Competency Pathways and Judgment Quality in Ghana,” the study explores the human capabilities required for effective oversight as Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into public services.

Drawing on survey data from 101 key stakeholders, the research finds that while technical knowledge and AI literacy remains important, ethical and critical awareness emerges as the primary predictor of sound AI governance judgment.

The study reinforces the importance of developing not only technical capabilities, but also the ethical awareness needed to guide responsible deployment and governance of AI across the wider digital ecosystem in Ghana.

The paper is co-authored by Ibrahim Osman Adam and Mubarik Abdul Mumin of the University for Development Studies, and Haruna Mohammed of NITA.

📢 NITA Research Featured at AMCIS 2026

NITA is proud to highlight a new research publication examining the pathways to digital government maturity in Ghana’s public sector.

Titled “Does Governance Translate to Transformation? Direct and Mediated Pathways to Digital Government Maturity in Ghana’s Public Sector,” the study draws on the 2025 Government ICT Maturity Index (GIMI) survey covering 167 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The research finds that strong governance structures alone do not automatically translate into digital transformation. Instead, cybersecurity emerges as a critical strategic enabler, helping bridge the gap between governance and improved digital services, innovation and digital government maturity.

The paper is co-authored by Haruna Mohammed and Yaw Buadu Osei of NITA; Ing. Dr. Mark-Oliver Kevor, former Director-General of NITA; and Ibrahim Osman Adam of the University for Development Studies.
