In April 2026 The National Archives of Ireland released the records of the 1926 Census. Here in SDCC Libraries we have a host of additional resources to support family history research. Historian Liz Gillis dropped into the County Library, Tallaght, to discover more.

This project is funded and supported by the Irish government’s Department of Culture, Communications and Sport 2026 Commemorative Programme.

We had some gorgeous little pumpkins in Tallaght Library this morning! 🎃

These little cuties had a good work out in our Tummy Time sessions, building up their head, neck and back muscles, and making some new friends too.

They all deserve a little afternoon nap now. 😴

Have you a Halloween costume ready for tomorrow? The Tallaght Library staff are ready to go Trick or Treating!! 🎃

We have some kids' costumes left from our clothes swap if you want to pop in to the library today. We also have a spook-tacular Halloween display where you can pose for photos and selfies. 🧛

Tomorrow we have a full day of free Halloween family fun from 10.30am to 1.30pm and no booking is required! 👻

We were delighted to host the rescheduled Redline Book Festival event 'South County Dublin Through The Lens of the 1926 Census' with historian Liz Gillis in Tallaght Library last night.

Liz explored what the newly released census reveals about the communities of South Dublin, using the stories behind the statistics to see how people lived and worked a century ago.

This talk also featured the premiere of a short film Our Centenary Story: South Dublin Lives 1926, exploring the evidence in the census records of the lives of notable personalities and realities of everyday life.

Funded and supported by the Irish government’s Department of Culture, Communications and Sport 2026 Commemorative Programme.
