🌈 To celebrate Pride Week, join us at Central Library on Monday, 22nd June at 5.15pm for a special screening of an uplifting and heartwarming comedy-drama.

Based on a true story, the film follows a group of LGBTQ+ activists who form an unlikely alliance with a Welsh mining community during the 1984 miners' strike. We've had a marvellous week celebrating Agatha Christie at the Central Library.

On Monday, Myles Dungan delved into the mystery of her 11 day disappearance in 1926, before exploring her writing career, style, notable books and characters. Myles' entertaining talk, full of facts, quotes, criticism and classic book covers was delivered to a packed house. We all agreed the quote of the night was Agatha's take down of her most famous character Hercule Poirot.

Not only was Poirot the first fictional character to get an obituary (The New York Times, 6 August 1975), he was also the subject of Central Library's first ever community jigsaw. Puzzling times indeed! 🧐

The celebration continues next Wed 17 June at 12.30pm, when our brand new Page to Screen club screen a Christie classic. Copies of the accompanying book available to borrow now.

Join us on Saturday for our Cruinniú na nÓg event.

Dream On invites children into a world where books burst into life, music reshapes the ordinary, and imagination takes centre stage.

In this playful 15‑minute performance, a circus artist and a violinist transform a quiet library into a realm of juggling books, balancing acts, and musical mischief. What begins as a student’s struggle with information overload becomes a joyful reminder that curiosity can open unexpected doors.

Following the show, children aged 8–12 can dive into a hands‑on workshop blending movement, rhythm, and introductory circus skills.

Skills for Life: Business Supports for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

This talk at the Central Library introduces aspiring entrepreneurs to the key business supports, organisations, and funding options available in Ireland, helping them understand where to go for advice, financial assistance, and guidance when starting a business.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

Identify key organisations that support start-ups in Ireland
Understand the types of financial and non-financial supports available

Recognise initial steps to access supports and funding
Know where to go for further guidance and mentoring

Skills for Life is a new national programme available through every public library in Ireland.

It offers free workshops, events, and resources to help adults build everyday skills, from going online and managing money to staying healthy and living more sustainably.
