The Ministerial Session on 'Leadership in Developing Countries: Reconciling Opportunities & Challenges of Climate Resilient Development' took place today at . Below are some of the key highlights from the session.

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Environment, Egypt, وزارة البيئة - Ministry of Environment, said, “Being the president of UN climate summit COP 27, Egypt will ensure inclusivity for global mitigation.”

“Egypt has been progressing on the National Climate Action. Our environmental sustainability criteria have been an enabler in fighting climate change,” she added.

Ms. Khadeeja Naseem, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Maldives, said, “By 2050, it is estimated that our coral reefs would have died. We are cutting plastic use & aiming to be net-zero by 2030.”

"Mitigation & adaptation is crucial for climate action. I call upon the intl community for climate finance for fighting climate change globally," she added.

Ms Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Climate Change & Environment وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة, said, “As the host of COP 28, UAE is committed to helping other countries in climate resilience and ensure climate action progresses.”

“We’re in a critical decade to address the challenges of our era and boost meaningful action. We’re ensuring that countries work towards climate neutrality," she added.

“The Paris Agreement calls for all countries to reach net-zero by mid-century. We’re collaborating with global partners for collective action," she further emphasised.

Dr Junaid K**al Ahmad, India Country Director, World Bank India, said, “Within 5 years, India’s solar rooftop has grown by over 900 per cent. It has reduced 17.7 mn tons of CO2 emissions. This ability to leverage the market is extremely important.

Mr. K**al Kishore, Member Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority, India, said, "Already existing resources need to be allocated to use as an opportunity for creatively building resilience."
