Andrew Holness

Recently I met with Mr. Stewart Beckford, Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the senior leadership.

I received a comprehensive update on the work of the JFB which goes beyond fire response. Indeed my administration is moving to more strategically and comprehensively improve the response mechanisms of our first responders.
The JFB will also be rolling out a training programme which will incorporate more efficient and modern best practices.
The JFB will soon be recruiting for young persons to join their cohort.

In the observance of Women's History month and International Women's Day (IWD), the Saint Lucia Fire Service Association recognizes three pioneering female officers who have defied the odds to excell in their profession. In clockwise direction...Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Tonia Albert is the first female in the history of the Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) to ascend to the rank of Station Officer (middle manager) and the first to also ascend to her current ADO (Senior Management) rank. Ms. Albert was also the first female instructor at the SLFS's training academy. ADO Albert is presently the Officer in charge of the department's Fire Prevention Division.
Subordinate Officer (S/O) 335 Eve Albert is the first firefighter in the history of the SLFS to attain qualifications in the field of Fire Investigation. Her qualification created further history with the Government of Saint Lucia assigning the post of Fire Investigator to the SLFS for the first time in 2010. She completed her studies at Seneca College, Canada in 2008. Others have followed in her footsteps, however S/O 335 Albert is the most qualified in the area of Fire Investigation. She is currently the Crew/Watch Commander of Blue Watch at the Vieux Fort Fire Station.
Leading Firefighter (LFF) 479 Claudia St.Aimee Cazaubon is the first female to be assigned as an ambulance driver in the SLFS's history. She is also the department's first female fire appliance/truck driver. LFF 479 St. Aimee Cazaubon is currently the youngest female Crew/Watch Commander in charge of White Watch at the Babonneau Fire Station.
The Association has approached the Department of Gender Relations and the office of the Chief Fire Officer to collaborate in hosting an inaugural one day symposium for all female staff where their contributions to the SLFS will be recognized and appreciation shown in various forms.
Happy International Women's Day to all female staff of the Saint Lucia Fire Service.
