📣TEAM STAFF ANNOUNCEMENT📣: MEET OUR SENIOR STRATEGIC ADVISOR — RAIS AHO

We are proud to appoint Rais Aho as Senior Strategic Advisor for Marshall Islands Flag Football.

Rais brings decades of experience in athletics, sports administration, and youth development. Before entering public service, he was an All-American running back at Portland State University, where he helped the Vikings compete as one of the top-ranked programs in the nation. During his standout final season, Rais rushed for more than 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns.

After his playing career, Rais dedicated more than a decade to developing sports in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. He oversaw national sports initiatives, served for 10 years as President of the Marshall Islands Athletics Federation, and helped create greater opportunities for Marshallese athletes to compete internationally.

Rais also founded the Sports & Extracurricular Program (SEP) in 2007, expanding organized sports opportunities for students throughout the RMI. His commitment to making sports accessible to every athlete also led him to play an instrumental role in the development of Special Olympics Marshall Islands.

As our Senior Strategic Advisor, Rais will help guide the growth of our program, strengthen partnerships, expand opportunities for our young athletes, and support our long-term vision for Marshall Islands Flag Football.

We are honored to have his experience, leadership, and passion for Marshallese youth helping guide the next generation. 🇲🇭🏈

📣 COACH ANNOUNCEMENT 📣
MEET OUR HEAD COACH — SANIA “SONNY” LEUELU

Coach Sonny is a multi-sport coach who has spent the last six years coaching and mentoring young athletes across football, rugby, and now flag football.

Before stepping into coaching, Sonny proudly served 8 years in the U.S. Army, bringing the leadership, discipline, and accountability from his military experience into the way he develops athletes today.

Sonny is also no stranger to building programs from the ground up. He is the Founder and former President of the Federal Way Warriors and Founder of The Island Bowl . What began with fewer than 30 young athletes in 2021 has grown into a rugby organization serving more than 100 athletes today.

Throughout the years, Sonny has coached and mentored athletes from age 5 through high school, with some now continuing their rugby careers at the collegiate level. Through the programs he built, he has also connected his athletes with rugby legends such as Waisale Serevi and Samu Manoa, giving young players the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by those who have competed at the highest levels of the sport.

For Coach Sonny, coaching has always been about more than wins and losses. It’s about developing better athletes, building strong character, creating opportunities, and helping young people grow into confident leaders on and off the field.

Coach Sonny is excited to bring that same passion and experience to Marshall Islands Flag Football as we continue building our program and prepare to represent in Las Vegas! 🇲🇭🏈
