OVER N$ 2.4 MILLION MOBILIZED FOR CUBA | The Office of the Prime Minister has raised N$2, 449 155.00 in support of the people of Cuba through a high‑level solidarity gala dinner held at the NamPower Convention Centre in Windhoek on 16 September 2026.
The funds were mobilised through ticket sales and pledges at the event organised by OPM, marking it one of the largest single‑night solidarity fundraisers for Cuba hosted by the Namibian Government.
Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, who spearheaded the initiative, said the drive was an act of moral responsibility to Cuba’s historic support during Namibia’s liberation struggle. “Our support for Cuba is rooted in our shared history of solidarity and shared sacrifice. We cannot abandon Cuba at this time,” he told about 400 guests, including cabinet ministers, diplomats , senior government officials, business leaders and sympathisers.
Ngurare stressed that the fundraiser was not charity but a moral obligation, noting that Cuban combatants fought alongside Namibians paving the way for Namibia’s independence.
In her keynote address, H. E President Dr Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah said “Cuba stood with us when freedom appeared distant. Today, as Cuba confronts its own difficult hour, Namibia must stand with Cuba,” adding that Namibia can never fully repay Cuba because “the price is unlimited”
