Monitoring visit of Avian Influenza Surveillance in Human Population sentinel site at Khwopa Hospital, Bhaktapur was conducted by National Public Health Laboratory on 23rd June 2026. NPHL team led by Bal Krishna Awal, visited the different wards and laboratory department. A meeting was organised with the Khwopa Hospital team including the clinicians, nursing staffs, laboratory staffs, medical recorder, and other staffs of the hospital and discussed on the importance of avian influenza Surveillance and its operation at Khowpa Hospital.

An implementation workshop for the Influenza Burden of Disease Study at Bhaktapur Hospital, Bhaktapur, was conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory with technical support from the World Health Organization on 9 Ashadh (June 23, 2026). During the workshop, the objectives and significance of the influenza burden study were highlighted. Participants discussed the study workflow and implementation model, and a simulation exercise was conducted to enhance understanding of the study procedures and data collection processes.

On 25–26 June 2026, the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), with support from WHO, conducted a two-day review of the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and Integrated Influenza and other Respiratory Virus Surveillance Systems. The review reflected on the past five years of implementation, highlighting key progress, achievements, challenges, and gaps.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders under the One Health approach to share experiences and lessons learned through technical presentations. Panel discussions and group discussions generated recommendations to strengthen the surveillance systems, enhance multisectoral collaboration, and ensure long-term sustainability.

The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) conducted an onsite monitoring visit for the National Integrated SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza Surveillance (NISN) at TUTH, Maharagunj on 18-19 June, 2026. During the visit, data on the total number of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases for February 2026 were collected for the SORT IT program. In addition, updates on NISN activities were reviewed and documented.
