The Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) successfully commenced the Orientation Program for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Nepal Summer Research Internship and Fellowship 2026 on 17 June 2026 at IFA, Tripureshwor.
This inaugural cohort marks an important milestone in strengthening engagement between Nepal’s foreign policy institutions and emerging researchers, professionals, and students. The program received an overwhelming response, with 1,278 applications from Nepal and abroad. Following a highly competitive selection process, 20 outstanding participants were selected for the 2026 cohort.
The cohort is composed of three distinct tracks:
• 10 Internship Participants
• 5 In-Person Research Fellows
• 5 Virtual Research Fellows
The orientation featured welcome remarks by Ms. Rojina Tamrakar, Executive Director of IFA, who highlighted IFA’s role as Nepal’s institution for diplomatic training, policy research, and strategic dialogue. Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai, Foreign Secretary of MoFA, delivered orientation remarks emphasizing fresh ideas, rigorous research, and meaningful engagement with contemporary foreign policy challenges.
Mr. Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of MoFA, provided a comprehensive overview of the Ministry, offering participants valuable insights into Nepal’s diplomatic machinery, institutional priorities, and the evolving global landscape.
Over the next eight weeks, interns and fellows will undertake policy-oriented research across priority areas including strategic affairs, international law, development finance, emerging technologies, climate diplomacy, energy transition, labor migration, diaspora engagement, public diplomacy, and investment promotion. Their work is expected to generate practical and policy-relevant insights contributing to Nepal’s broader foreign policy discourse.
