Over the past few months, we’ve been working closely with Tōtara Hospice’s Talanoa group to capture portraits of attendees and those who came along to support them during the talanoa sessions.

During Hospice Awareness Week, these portraits were presented in a pop-up exhibition highlighting the importance of culturally grounded care through photography and talanoa. Our foyer was filled with emotion that morning, as families, friends, hospice staff, ward councillors, and local board members gathered together for a beautiful and deeply moving event.

The exhibition also celebrated those who had marked important life moments at the hospice, including milestone birthdays and weddings.

These portraits will now be gifted back to the patients and their families to cherish.

Special thanks to Tōtara Hospice, Taime Pasifika Cancer Support, Davis Funerals, Manurewa Local Board for making this possible.

This exhibition explores the meaning of ‘vessel’, ranging from purely functional to totally abstract, from simplicity of form though to expressive sculptural pieces. The works presented in this exhibition are all created by members of MPC. These vessels reflect MPC’s multicultural collective.

We hosted another beautiful taonga pūoro workshop early this May to kick off NZ Music Month led by taonga pūoro collective, Tāmaki Oro Rau.

This waananga offered rangatahi a chance to connect with taonga puoro; learning more about the hiitori of the instruments, and the opportunity to use them to make music. Within the space were young people from South Auckland but with ties to different iwi, different Pacific Islands and different nations across the world.

New Sitting Room Gallery exhibition by Manurewa local, Camden Jackson.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, FINANCIAL FREEDOM, AND A PLACE TO CALL HOME

Camden Jackson explores identity, choice, and everyday life through his q***r lens and upbringing in Manurewa. Using the camera to pause and occupy space, his work reflects the politics of daily decisions. These images speak to ‘making do’ — balancing sacrifice and reward — while questioning who we are and what’s within our reach.

We have an exciting new exhibition opening this Saturday!

Vessels by the Manurewa Potters Club

The art of forming vessels for functional use is one of humanity’s oldest inventions. Vessels have been essential for everyday food preparation, storage and liquid containment for over twenty thousand years.

Throughout the centuries the ‘vessel’ has also been a vehicle for expressing ethnicity, beauty, diversity and craftsmanship. This exhibition explores the meaning of ‘vessel’, ranging from purely functional to totally abstract, from simplicity of form though
to expressive sculptural pieces.

The works presented in this exhibition are all created by members of MPC (Manurewa Potters Club). The club has held a space and a community for working with clay for over 50 years. These vessels reflect MPC’s multicultural collective.

Join us for the opening at 10am, Saturday, 9 May in the Upstairs Gallery at Nathan Homestead Pukepuke (70 Hill Road, Manurewa)

The exhibition will be on display until 20 June 2026.
