Eight units. Seven teams. One champion.
Over four action-packed days in July, the eight New Zealand Cadet Corps units from across the South Island assembled at Burnham Military Camp to battle it out in the annual NZCC Skill at Arms Competition. Making this year's event even more special, it was the first time in a decade that all eight South Island units were represented.
Teams were tested across a demanding range of challenges, including the RFL, range practices, equipment carry, CASEVAC, and the ever-popular tug of war. Every event pushed competitors to demonstrate teamwork, resilience, determination, and skill under pressure.
After a fiercely contested competition, Nelson Cadet Unit claimed the title of 2026 South Island Skill at Arms Champions. Congratulations on an outstanding achievement!
Special congratulations also go to:
City of Dunedin Cadet Unit – Esprit de Corps Trophy
Ashburton Cadet Unit – Drill Trophy and Tug of War Trophy
Congratulations to every cadet who competed and represented their unit with pride. We wish Nelson Cadet Unit the very best as they go on to represent the South Island against the Central and Northern champions at the National Skill at Arms Competition later this year.
