Today we're celebrating something pretty special. 🧡

🧡 Today is International Bone Marrow Donor Day, a day to celebrate the incredible donors who have helped make life-saving transplants possible for people in need.

Every person on the Bone Marrow Registry represents hope for patients waiting for a life-saving match.

If you're aged 18-35 and donating blood with us, ask about joining the Bone Marrow Registry at your next donation, it could make a world of difference to a patient and their whānau.

Together, we're building a registry that gives more people the chance to keep making memories. ✨

Thanks to all our generous donors who have stepped up to donate plasma.

We've collected 356 more plasma donations so far, but we're still behind where we need to be to reach our regional target of collecting a total of 1980 donations by 30 November to ensure we finish the year on track before the Christmas break.

It’s been a hard year for plasma donations generally - demand for plasma continues to grow at pace and donations have been significantly impacted by a difficult and prolonged influenza season.

We must hit our local weekly target of collecting 175 more plasma donations every week.

If you can donate once, or even better twice, before the end of November, that will help get us closer to our goal and ensure patients can continue accessing the treatments they depend on.

Invercargill, you absolutely smashed it! 👏

Together, we collected 238 units of lifesaving blood last week, helping to save or improve the lives of up to 714 people.

A massive thank you to every donor who made the time to give, the fantastic Altrusa Invercargill ladies for their unwavering support, and the team at the Invercargill Workingmens Club Inc, Corinthian Centre for making us feel so welcome.

We're looking forward to being back in December, but be warned... appointments are filling incredibly quickly! If you or someone you know is keen to donate, get in quick and secure a spot. ❤️🩸

Meet Jordan Chitty, the vice president of the Otago University Medical Laboratory Science Students' Association (OUMLSSA).

Last year, Jordan donated blood for the first time as part of a blood drive organised by the previous execs of OUMLSSA.

This year, she's taken on the mantle of Team Red Captain herself, encouraging other students to sign up to the Otago University blood drive from September 22-24.

As a medical lab student, Jordan has studied blood transfusion. Now, she gets a whole new perspective of the donor side – and she enjoys chatting with our staff about the science behind it all.

For her, the decision to give blood is simple:

"It's pretty easy to roll up your sleeves and donate!"

Today is International Donor Relations Day, we're celebrating our local Donor Relations team and the amazing work they do behind the scenes and out in the field.

Whether they're recruiting new donors, supporting community groups, promoting upcoming blood drives, or building lasting relationships across Otago and Southland, their work helps connect generous people with the opportunity to save lives.

🔥🩸 Silver Fern Farms showing up for the community! 🩸🔥

A massive shout out to the incredible crew at Silver Fern Farms who rolled up their sleeves and made a real impact through blood donation this week. ❤️They run with the moto that; you never know when you, a teammate, a family member, or a friend might need blood or blood products, and a single donation can make a real difference when it's needed most.

This wasn't just a group of people donating blood, it was a team coming together with purpose, generosity, and a genuine desire to help others.

We're so grateful for your support and the difference you're making for patients across New Zealand.

And the excitement doesn't stop here... we're looking forward to welcoming another large group of Silver Fern Farms employees through our doors next month! 🎉🙌
