On Wednesday last week the Tucker Beach Wildlife Trust hosted a group of local Trappers. The Southern Lakes Sanctuary and PredatorFreeNZ ran two trapper workshops with Cam Speedy sharing his knowledge with trappers from Bobs Cove to the Arrow River and 3 of our volunteers.
Thanks for facilitating this in the Tucker Beach Wildlife Reserve, we hope the second workshop at Lake Hayes was also fantastic.

Tucker Beach Wildlife Reserve neighbours Robyn and Richard grew and generously donated 700 silver tussocks to aid with the creation of lizard habitat at Tucker Beach. Today, that vision became reality with a small, but efficient crew finding homes for 400 tussocks! Thank you to all involved - what a great autumnal day out.

We desperately need your help!

Flash planting mob - Tuesday 5th May.

Starting 9am 282 Tucker beach road, just park at the top on the grass verge - follow your nose down to the Queenstown Trail and the signs will guide you the rest of the way. It’s a 10-15min walk to site.

Basically - we have a whole lotta tussocks to get in the ground and very little funding. Bring a spade, gardening gloves and a can do attitude. Stay as little or as long as you like.

Flick Aimee a text 021495007 if you can come!

Happy planting!

THANK YOU TO ALL!!
Last Saturday (18th April) we had the help of 30 volunteers, many of whom were new to the project, as we planted 400 natives into the recently cleared tailings area. We are grateful for the support of the European Baker, Ferg Butcher, and Queenstown Rotary Club for sponsoring our morning tea and BBQ afterwards. The plants have been fenced to protect from rabbits by Nationwide Gardeners, holes were dug by Mana Tāhuna who cleared the tailings for us. All with the support of the Otago Regional Council EcoFund.

What an extraordinary conservation community we have!!

We've got some more plants to go in so watch this space and reach out if you're up for some mid-week planting!

You may have noticed that access to the Tucker Beach Wildlife Management Reserve has been temporarily changed. Here is a link to the Queenstown Lakes District Council website that explains what's happening in the old landfill area (closed in January 1999).
Access into the Reserve is still available via the Tucker Beach Queenstown Trails (blue line).
This work will take a few months. Thanks for your patience.
The team have moved some of our plantings across the track to try and save as many as possible, and the fill area will be planted with natives when the work is complete.

Preparatory work has begun at the former landfill site in Frankton ahead of rehabilitating the landfill slope.
