Specialist Teacher | Fixed Term, Full Time
Start Date: 20th April or as soon as possible thereafter

Are you a champion for inclusive education? Do you believe that every child deserves a "Climate of Possibility"?
Shotover Primary School is looking for a dedicated Specialist Teacher to join our team for a fixed-term, full-time role. We need someone who doesn't just teach, but advocates, adapts, and empowers our neurodiverse learners to shine.

The Role
This isn't your standard classroom position. As a Specialist Teacher, you will be the bridge between potential and achievement for students with a range of neurodiverse needs. You’ll be working across the school to ensure that "inclusive education" is a lived reality, not just a buzzword.

We want someone who looks at a challenge and sees an opportunity.

You’ll thrive here if you:

Lead with Empathy: You understand that behaviour is communication and you lead with understanding.

Have Experience with Neurodiverse Children: You have proven experience working with children with diverse learning profiles and know how to unlock their best selves.

Are a Collaborative Navigator: You excel at working within the wider Learning Support System, seamlessly collaborating with OTs, SLTs, whānau, and fellow mentors to ensure every child has a cohesive support network

Are Adaptable & Flexible: You can pivot your approach and are able to look at the ‘big picture.’

Know the System: You have a solid awareness of the wider Learning Support System and how to navigate it to get the best results for students.

Apply via our website https://www.shotover.school.nz/vacancies

It is so tempting to talk about the food again... Not only did we have an awesome crew at both Borland camps ensuring that our campers were fuelled and ready for the physical challenges but conversations around the dinner table proved to be another highlight! So much talk amongst the campers sharing the days' adventures, challenges and accomplishments.

Hap D campers are on the eve of coming home.

All of our Year 7 and 8 students have had an awesome time at Borland over the past couple of weeks.

This is a massive shout out to our mentors who have taken a week away from their families to make this happen, the prep they have had to do to make the camp come together, and to our amazing camp parents who have been able to take a week away from both family and work to take on the 24 hour/ 5 day shift to support this fantastic experience!

(All of us back home wish you well with the pack down and clean up!)

How lucky are we to have had another day with the amazing Michelle from Deaf Aotearoa. She delivered New Zealand Sign Language classes to most of our school on Tuesday and was so impressed with what our children and mentors already knew.

We look forward to having her back again!

This week, we have been incredibly fortunate to have Guy Constable and Michael Rhodes from Learning Through Doing on site to support our team and observe our mathematics teaching.

Over the past 18 months, LTD has also been working closely with our mentors to support the development of their maths teaching and coaching skills, ensuring our maths delivery is consistent and impactful.

At our staff only day today, we spent time delving into our assessment and exploring ways we can have best impact with all of our learners.

A huge thank you to Guy and Michael for sharing their expertise and helping us continue to grow! We'd also like to thank our families for redesigning family life for the day.

Food Glorious Food!
They say an army marches on its stomach, and our Year 7 & 8 campers have been no exception this week!

Between the bush treks and the big challenges, our students have been fueled by a mix of campfires, home baking, and our incredible camp parents executing the camp meals. Whether it’s buttering a mountain of rolls or perfecting the art of the campfire s’more, these kids have stepped up and kept the energy high.

A huge shout-out to:

Our family bakers: That home baking didn't just taste good; it was the secret ingredient to getting them through the long hauls!

Our legend camp parents: For being the ultimate sous-chefs and keeping the the campers in check while they fueled up for the next adventure.

One final night of camp magic tonight, before they head home tomorrow.

Here's hoping they get some sleep!

They might be coming back a little bit tired and (maybe) a lot bit smelly, but they’re definitely well-fed and feeling accomplished!

It's been all go over our first three weeks of 2026! Our incredible mentors and learners have been heavily engaged in the start up phase for 2026, building relationships, establishing learning programmes and setting learning goals.

Behind the scenes, our Year 5- 8 mentors have been planning their 2026 camps and this week and next, our Year 7 and 8s are enjoying the Camp Borland experience.

Kawarau campers have had a great start to camp this week. They have had a frosty start but a beautiful sunny day, today.

The groups have been kayaking, abseilinig, rockclimbing, on a rogaine, doing some science out in nature and building some epic Bivvys.

Last night they enjoyed their firepit smores and this afteroon they have the fire going as they experiment how to cook popcorn. The adults have been loving the enthusiasm and joy being displayed with this awesome group of humans.

WaiPu Year 7 and 8s will be away to Borland next week and our Year 5 and 6 students will be off to Omaui for their "Adventure Camp" next term ( ).

A massive congratulations to Franco, our year 8 student and Ambassador, for this outstanding achievement. 🌟

We have no doubt that you will have an incredible year as you continue to push your limits in sports and drive positive change in our community.

Ka pai, Franco, keep up the great mahi!

Ngā mihi Shotover Jet for this awesome opportunity and support for tamariki in the Wakatipu Basin

We’re stoked to welcome Franco into the Te Iti Kahuraki whānau for 2026 and can’t wait to follow his journey.

Franco has already had a summer most footballers dream of - taking part in an elite training experience at Manchester United and the National Football Centre at St George’s Park in the UK as part of The Pro Project, alongside 30 selected young players from across Aotearoa.

In 2026, this rising Queenstown star is training across football, boxing, futsal, and triathlon (yes, all of them!) with his sights set on international tournaments and community impact.

Franco is one of four athletes joining the Te Iti Kahuraki whānau this year - and we can’t wait to cheer him on.
