A total of eleven (11) Council of Irrigators Association (CIA) from NIA MARIIS, through Division III, signed the Irrigation Management Transfer (IMT) Recontracting on May 7, 2026, reaffirming their continued partnership with the National Irrigation Administration in the operation, maintenance, and management of irrigation systems.

The agreement strengthens the role of Irrigators Associations in ensuring efficient water distribution and improved service delivery to farmers, with NIA providing ongoing technical assistance, guidance, and institutional support for sustainable and effective irrigation management.

“Sa bawat karne na napoproseso, kabuhayan ay unti-unting umaasenso — sama-samang pag-unlad para sa mas matatag na samahan ng mga irrigators.” Muling nagsagawa ang Division I sa NIA MARIIS ng dalawang araw na Livelihood Training on Meat Processing para sa mga miyembro ng iba’t ibang Council of Irrigators Association (CIA) sa nasasakupan nito. Isinagawa ang naturang pagsasanay sa pakikipagtulungan sa Southern Isabela College of Arts and Trades na nagbibigay ng accredited trainings sa Santiago City.

Layunin ng aktibidad na mabigyan ng dagdag na kaalaman at kasanayan sa mga miyembro ng CIA upang magkaroon sila ng alternatibong mapagkakakitaan. Sa isinagawang training, natutunan ng mga participants ang wastong pagproseso ng iba’t ibang produktong gawa sa karne tulad ng longganisa, siomai, at embotido gamit ang karne ng baboy, manok, at baka. Naging makabuluhan din ang hands-on activities upang higit nilang mahasa ang kanilang kakayahan sa meat processing.

Sa pamamagitan ng mga ganitong programa, patuloy na ipinapakita ng NIA MARIIS ang suporta nito hindi lamang sa pagpapalakas ng irigasyon kundi maging sa pagpapabuti ng kabuhayan ng mga irrigators at kanilang pamilya. Inaasahan na ang mga natutunang kasanayan mula sa training ay magsisilbing dagdag oportunidad para sa mas matatag at maunlad na pamumuhay ng mga miyembro

To mitigate possible operational challenges and strengthen preparations for the upcoming Wet Crop Season 2026, including the agency’s readiness measures for the possible effects of the El Niño alert, NIA MARIIS, through Division III, conducted a CIA/IA Consultation cm FIAD Meeting on May 7, 2026. The activity served as a venue for open communication, allowing participants to discuss updates, address concerns, and identify possible solutions to issues and challenges for the continuous improvement of irrigation operations.

Personnel from the NIA Head Office provided updates from their respective sections, including the Institutional Development Section and the Operations Section. Representative from the Dam and Reservoir Division also presented updates regarding the current status and operations of the Magat Dam. Meanwhile, each unit from the Operations and Maintenance Section (OMS) of Division III shared accomplishments, ongoing activities, and other institutional matters related to irrigation operations within the division. Updates were also presented by the National Food Authority (NFA) representative from San Manuel Isabela.

Through the concerted efforts of the Institutional Development Unit led by Ms. Cherryfie A. Villeza and Engr. Rizaldy B. Asuncion, Supervising Engineer A of Area 2, together with Engr. Derson B. Casiano, Head of OMS, and under the leadership of Engr. Jaime M. Lara, Division Manager A, the meeting was successfully conducted, ensuring efficient irrigation management and continuous service to farmers.

Ginanap kaninang alas tres ng hapon ang ikatlong misa sa San Isidro Labrador Chapel, na muling dinaluhan ng mga empleyado mula sa NIA MARIIS Head Office, Division IV, at Division II.

Ang banal na misa ay pinangunahan ni Father Vener C. Ceperez mula sa Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, na patuloy na nagbibigay-inspirasyon at gabay sa ating komunidad.

Sa bawat pagtitipon, lalo nating pinagtitibay ang ating ugnayan bilang isang pamilya sa NIA MARIIS, nagkakaisa sa pananampalataya, serbisyo, at pasasalamat.

The National Irrigation Administration – Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS) is currently conducting a two-day Training on Cybersecurity, Computer Literacy, and Data Privacy Act Awareness at the Dam and Reservoir Division (DRD) Training Center, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). The activity aims to strengthen the digital competencies of NIAns and promote responsible data management in support of NIA’s mandate of delivering efficient, well-managed, and resilient irrigation systems.

During the opening, Section Heads conveyed key messages underscoring the importance of the training. Mr. Manuel A. Agonoy emphasized the need to integrate cybersecurity into risk registries to better protect organizational assets and operations. Engr. Alfredo M. Flores, Jr. shared his expectations for practical knowledge that participants can apply both in their work and daily lives. Baligatan Outlet Works and Hydroelectric Power Plant Unit Head Engr. Francis A. Francisco, representing the Electro-Mechanical Section, encouraged everyone to remain participative and cooperative, noting that cybersecurity and data privacy are competencies developed over time. Representing Division Manager A Engr. Carlo C. Ablan, Engr. Edwin J. Viernes highlighted the significance of the activity as a first for the Division and reminded participants to always “think before you click.”

Serving as resource person is Mr. Mark Anthony Portabes, a DICT-accredited Certified Trainer and Subject Matter Expert in cybersecurity, data privacy protection, and data-driven governance. Through this initiative, NIA-MARIIS reaffirms its commitment to good governance, risk management, and the protection of critical information systems that support agricultural productivity and farmers’ welfare.

NIA MARIIS keeps a close eye on project progress through the Engineering and Repair Unit (ERU) meeting held on May 5, 2026, at Division III. The meeting highlights updates and accomplishments of each Project-in-Charge, especially for projects that will help ensure smooth and timely water delivery for the Wet Cropping Season 2026.

During the meeting, updates were presented on the progress of ongoing infrastructure works, including timelines, completion rates, and key challenges. Discussions focused on aligning projects with operational needs for efficient water distribution, while emphasizing stronger monitoring, better coordination, and timely completion in line with engineering standards.

Engr. Jaime M. Lara, Division Manager A, and Engr. Derson B. Casiano, Head of the Operations and Maintenance Section, were present and provided valuable insights while addressing key issues raised during the discussion. Engr. Jimmy F. Bato, Head of the ERU, also gave clear instructions and reinforced the importance of maintaining high-quality standards across all projects. Through continuous collaboration and strong commitment, NIA MARIIS Division III remains dedicated to delivering efficient irrigation services, ensuring timely water distribution, and supporting the productivity of farmers for the Wet Cropping Season 2026.

The National Irrigation Administration – Magat River Integrated Irrigation System, Dam and Reservoir Division (NIA-MARIIS DRD) plays a vital role in the operation and maintenance of Magat Dam. The Flood Forecasting and Instrumentation Section (FFIS), through its advanced Command Center, is responsible for the real-time monitoring of hydrological data, telemetry and instrumentation equipment, communications, and the efficient delivery of the Irrigation Diversion Requirement (IDR).

Through a network of telemetered rainfall and water-level gauges, warning stations, and dam instrumentation, these systems are monitored remotely 24/7 and properly maintained to ensure the integrity of Magat Dam, efficient water management, and the safety of downstream communities along the Magat River.

During extreme weather conditions, the FFIS Command Center, in close coordination with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA), serves as the central hub for rainfall forecasting, communication dissemination, and dam operations. These functions are essential for faster information sharing, increased awareness, and timely responses among downstream stakeholders.

May 5, 2026 — The Federation of Irrigators Association in Division II (FIAD II) of NIA MARIIS is currently holding its General Assembly for the second quarter of CY 2026 at the Division II Conference Hall, in the presence of Engr. Roldan D, Bermudez, MARIIS EOD Manager. The activity is attended by 106 Irrigators’ Association (IA) Presidents, Municipal Agricultural Officers (MAOs), and representatives from the Head Office, including personnel from the IDS and Operations units. The assembly serves as a strategic platform for in-depth discussions on current challenges in irrigation management and the formulation of responsive and sustainable interventions aimed at improving operational efficiency. Outcomes and agreements generated from the meeting are expected to help refine development strategies that directly support farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.
