Magat River Integrated Irrigation System NIA MARIIS is among the biggest irrigation system of National Irrigation Administration.

It owns and operates the Magat Dam which provides irrigation service to 90,000 hectares of riceland in Isabela province and portions of Quirino and Ifugao provinces.

Magat Dam Sustains Rise Past 160-masl Critical Water Level Amid Cloud Seeding Operations and Rains

Magat Dam, Isabela — Sustained rainfall from cloud seeding operations and monsoon rains enhanced by recent weather disturbances, including Tropical Storm Maymay, have pushed the water elevation at the Magat Dam – Luzon’s largest watershed – past its critical water level, offering relief to farmers after several weeks of dry conditions caused by El Niño.

As of August 6, 2026, Thursday, Magat Dam recorded an elevation of 166.44 meters above sea level (masl), steering clear of the 160 masl critical water level that could have put at risk at least 12,000 hectares out of this irrigation system’s total programmed area of 96,000 hectares.

The Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (MARIIS) through Division IV conducted an emergency coordination meeting with the Municipal Agriculture Offices (MAOs) on August 5, 2026, at the Division IV Training Center in Cauayan City, Isabela, regarding the verification of the NIA-verified list of marginalized farmers within the Division IV service area.

Engr. Jovimar M. Bariuad, Division IV Manager A, presided over the meeting, while Engr. Don-Don Ronquillo, Acting Principal Engineer C, presented the verification process. The discussion focused on harmonizing data submitted by the Regional Agriculture Office (RAO) and the procedures for verifying farmer names, service areas, and other relevant information.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Veronica Aaron, Head of the Institutional Development Section; Municipal Agriculturists from the municipalities of Luna, Cabatuan, Angadanan, Alicia, Reina Mercedes, Naguilian, and San Mateo; representatives from the Cauayan City Agriculture Office and the Provincial Government of Isabela - Office of the Provincial Agriculturist; as well as WRFOs, SWRFTs, Supervising Area Engineers, and IDOs.

Through this activity, MARIIS further strengthened its partnership with local government units (LGUs) to ensure the efficient and accurate implementation of programs for marginalized farmers.

Kasalukuyang isinasagawa ngayong araw, Agosto 5, 2026, sa Conference Room ng NIA MARIIS Division I, Batal, Santiago City, ang isang emergency meeting na pinangunahan ni Division Manager Engr. Jaime Z. Ladiao. Dumalo rin sa nasabing pagpupulong ang mga kawani ng Division I at mga kinatawan mula sa Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) ng mga bayan ng Echague, Cordon, Ramon, Santiago City at San Isidro gayundin ang mga representative mula sa Provincial Agriculture Office ng Isabela.

Layunin ng emergency meeting na pagtibayin at tiyakin ang katumpakan ng listahan ng mga magsasakang kabilang sa mga vulnerable areas, bilang paghahanda sa pagpapatupad ng mga kinakailangang programa at agarang interbensyon para sa mga apektadong magsasaka. Tinalakay rin sa pulong ang wastong pagberipika at pagsasaayos ng datos upang matiyak na ang mga benepisyaryo ay tunay na kwalipikado at mabibigyan ng nararapat na suporta.

Sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan ng NIA MARIIS Division I at ng mga Municipal Agriculture Office, patuloy na isinusulong ang mas episyente at maayos na paghahatid ng serbisyo sa mga magsasaka, alinsunod sa layunin ng pamahalaan na mapalakas ang sektor ng agrikultura at matiyak ang kapakanan ng bawat magsasaka.
