From September 1 to 11, 2026, the Legacy of the Chalkboard Exhibit at the National Library of the Philippines brought visitors through key moments in teacher education, featuring historical pieces, milestones, and messages for the teachers who left a lasting mark on their lives.

Through stories, memories, and interactive experiences, the exhibit celebrated where teacher education has been and looked toward where it is headed.

More than 700 Senior High School learners from schools across Metro Manila, Bulacan and Cavite took part in the Teacher Education Councilโ€™s (TEC) first Teacher Education Career Forum 2026, held on September 10โ€“11 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel in Quezon City.

Through conversations with educators, career mentors, and advocates, the learners gained insights into the different pathways that can turn their interests, skills, and aspirations into meaningful careers.

They explored teaching as a career and calling, learned about the role of volunteerism in education, and discovered the diverse opportunities in teacher education. These insights were shared by Executive Director Donald James D. Gawe of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency; Teacher Jade L. Juntilla of San Roque Elementary School; Coach Lyqa Maravilla; Dr. Laarni T. Capinding of Tarlac State University; Ms. Maria Concepcion Loren Chua of King Sejong Institute Quezon City and the University of the Philippines Diliman; and Teacher Sabrina Ongkiko of Culiat Elementary School.

The forum also gave learners space to ask questions, exchange perspectives, and explore opportunities through the career exploration boothsโ€”encouraging them to reflect on where their interests can take them and how they can contribute to education and nation-building.

Sa mga datos na ito, isa ang kapansin-pansinโ€”malaki ang pagpapahalaga at tiwala ng mga Pilipinong mag-aaral sa kanilang mga g**o. Marami sa kanila ang nagbahagi na lumalapit sila sa kanilang mga g**o para humingi ng tulong at gabay. Ipinakikita nito ang mahalagang papel ng mga g**o sa pagpapaunlad ng karunungan at pagkatuto.

Ipinapaalala rin nito ang sama-samang responsibilidad sa pagpapabuti ng learning outcomes. Para sa Teacher Education Council (TEC), patuloy na palalakasin ng ahensya ang paghahanda, suporta, at paglilinang sa ating mga g**o.

Nananatiling nakatuon ang TEC sa pakikipagtulungan sa mga Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs), DepEd, mga g**o, at iba pang katuwang upang gamitin ang mga datos mula sa PISA 2025 bilang gabay sa pagsusulong ng mga reporma sa teacher education at pagtiyak na ang bawat g**o ay handang tumugon sa nagbabagong pangangailangan ng mga Pilipinong mag-aaral.

The Teacher Education Council recently participated in the two-day Technical Preparatory Workshop for the Inaugural Meeting of the Bangsamoro Education Coordination Forum (BECF), organized by EDCOM II in partnership with UNICEF Philippines.

The workshop served as a collaborative venue to consolidate baseline information, validate preliminary data, and establish the foundations for intergovernmental education governance in the region. As part of the preparations, participating agencies mapped national and Bangsamoro education programs and policies, clarified roles and responsibilities, documented implementation and funding arrangements, and identified issues requiring joint action.

The workshop builds on the landmark Memorandum of Agreement signed on July 28, 2026, by the Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE).

As part of these intergovernmental preparations, the Teacher Education Council (TEC) contributed a dedicated teacher-education perspective to the forum's preliminary coordination structures. TECโ€™s participation provides a teacher-education lens in the development of the BECFโ€™s mechanisms, priorities, and areas of coordination. It helps ensure that discussions on education in the Bangsamoro consider the quality, preparation, professional development, and support of teachers, recognizing teachers as a critical factor in improving learning outcomes.

As the BECF moves forward, TEC will continue to contribute its expertise toward building a stronger support system for teachersโ€”because better education outcomes begin with the people who make learning possible.
