As part of the orientation and capacity-building activities for newly hired Meat Inspection Officers (MIOs), the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) conducted an Immersion Activity with the assistance and guidance of the NMIS Regional Technical Operations Center – National Capital Region (NMIS RTOC-NCR) Meat Inspection Officers.

The activity provided the newly hired MIOs with an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge and practical exposure to the actual operations of various meat establishments. Through the immersion visits, the participants were able to observe and better understand the different processes, facilities, and activities involved in ensuring the proper handling, inspection, storage, and distribution of meat and meat products.

The group visited the following meat establishments:

Novaliches Meat Dealers & Vendors Association Inc.
Presnedi Slaughterhouse
Glacier South Refrigeration Services Corp.
Polaris Cold Chain Solutions
Igloo Supply Chain Philippines Inc. (Pasig City)

The immersion activity was made possible through the support and assistance of the NMIS RTOC-NCR Meat Inspection Officers, who helped facilitate the activity and shared their knowledge and experiences with the newly hired personnel.

NMIS-NCR extends its sincere gratitude to all the participating meat establishments for their warm welcome, accommodation, and cooperation in making the activity meaningful and successful. Their support and willingness to share their facilities and operations greatly contributed to the learning experience of the newly hired Meat Inspection Officers.

Madaling araw ng Agosto 25, 2026 nagsagawa ng Joint Strike Operation ang National Meat Inspection Service – National Capital Region (NMIS-NCR), at NMIS-Central office, katuwang ang Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at sa koordinasyon ng Pasay City Local Government Unit (LGU), sa Pasay Public Market.

Bahagi ito ng patuloy na pagpapatupad ng mga regulasyon sa kaligtasan ng karne at pagsasagawa ng mga enforcement activity upang maprotektahan ang publiko laban sa mga produktong maaaring magdulot ng panganib sa kalusugan.

Sa isinagawang operasyon, humigit-kumulang 200 kilo ng mishandled meat products ang nakumpiska dahil sa hindi wastong paghawak at pangangasiwa.

Ang mga nakumpiskang karne ay dinala sa Pampanga at isinailalim sa thermal destruction upang matiyak ang ligtas na disposal at maiwasang muling makapasok o mahalo sa food chain.

Patuloy ang NMIS, kasama ang mga katuwang na ahensya at lokal na pamahalaan, sa pagsasagawa ng mga enforcement operation upang matiyak na ang mga produktong karne na ipinagbibili sa publiko ay ligtas, maayos ang pagkakahawak, at sumusunod sa mga itinakdang pamantayan.

Pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 131, government offices are directed to implement appropriate alternative work arrangements in the National Capital Region and the following provinces on August 20, 2026:

Unless otherwise directed by their respective Local Chief Executives, alternative learning modes for classes and learning continuity measures at all levels in public and private schools shall be implemented in the aforementioned areas.

Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital services shall continue their operations and render the necessary services.

Contract of Service (COS) and Job Order (JO) workers placed under alternative work arrangements shall be paid their corresponding wages or salaries, subject to applicable rules and regulations.

The suspension of work or adoption of alternative work arrangements in the private sector shall be left to the discretion of management.

The National Meat Inspection Service – National Capital Region (NMIS-NCR) was among those recognized for its significant contribution to the landmark first conviction under Republic Act No. 9296, otherwise known as the “Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines,” as amended by Republic Act No. 10536.

The recognition was presented on August 17, 2026, at the NMIS MITDC Building, Visayas Avenue, Quezon City, highlighting the successful collaboration among the NMIS-Central office, NMIS-NCR, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the City Government of Valenzuela in the enforcement of meat safety regulations.

NMIS-NCR played an important role in the enforcement operation conducted in Valenzuela City, which contributed to the successful prosecution and eventual conviction of a violator under the Meat Inspection Code. This historic achievement underscores the vital role of field-level enforcement in addressing violations involving the illegal handling, transport, sale, and distribution of meat products.

In a significant milestone for meat safety enforcement in the Philippines, the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) commended the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for its invaluable collaboration, together with the City Government of Valenzuela, which contributed to a landmark conviction under Republic Act No. 9296, otherwise known as the “Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines,” as amended by Republic Act No. 10536.

The milestone was recognized on August 17, 2026, at the NMIS MITDC Bldg., Visayas Avenue, Quezon City, highlighting the importance of strong inter-agency cooperation in enforcing the country’s meat safety laws and protecting the consuming public.

The achievement underscores the value of strengthened coordination among regulatory agencies, law enforcement authorities, and local government units in addressing violations of meat safety laws and ensuring that cases are properly investigated and pursued. In view of Memorandum Circular No. 128 issued by the Office of the President, the NMIS-NCR shall implement a Work-from-Home (WFH) arrangement on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, due to continued heavy rainfall brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Meanwhile, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, is a special non-working holiday in Quezon City in observance of Quezon City Day. Regular operations shall resume on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

In photos, the National Meat Inspection Service–National Capital Region (NMIS-NCR), led by Dr. Paulo Silarde, MIES Head, together with Mr. Vener Santos, Plant Officer of Polaris Cold Chain Solutions, participated in the 2nd Border Inspection Training Seminar for Meat Inspection Officers, spearheaded by the Meat Import Export Division (MIED).

During the training, Dr. Silarde discussed the expected roles and responsibilities of Meat Inspection Officers assigned to cold storage warehouses. He emphasized the importance of properly checking and verifying the arrival documents of meat container vans to ensure that all meat products entering the facility are properly documented.

Dr. Silarde also highlighted the importance of conducting a thorough quality inspection of meat products upon arrival, including checking the condition of the container van and the meat products inside before they are stored inside the accredited cold storage warehouse before released for distribution. These inspection procedures are essential in ensuring that only safe, wholesome, and compliant meat products enter the food chain.

𝗡𝗠𝗜𝗦-𝗡𝗖𝗥 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗦 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘𝗧𝗬 𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗥 𝗔𝗧 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗗 𝗗𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗟𝗔

The National Meat Inspection Service–National Capital Region (NMIS-NCR), led by MSDCPS Head Dr. Mariel Rebosura, in collaboration with the Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) Manila, headed by Dr. Joselito Diaz, OIC, and the City Government of Manila, represented by City Administrator Atty. Eduardo Quintos XIV, successfully conducted a Meat Safety Seminar at Unibersidad de Manila.

The seminar brought together meat dealers, consumers, and vendors to promote greater awareness of proper meat handling, storage, sanitation, and the importance of purchasing meat products from safe, inspected, and properly documented sources.

The activity also emphasized the shared responsibility of meat industry stakeholders and consumers in preventing foodborne illnesses and ensuring that only safe, wholesome, and quality meat products reach the public.
