Empowering local governments through geospatial technology!

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development – National Capital Region (DHSUD NCR), through the Environmental, Land Use Planning and Development Division (ELUPDD), successfully conducted a 3-day Geographic Information System (GIS) Training for the City Government of San Juan on 28–30 July 2026. The training equipped participants with fundamental GIS knowledge and practical skills in QGIS, spatial data management, and hazard mapping applications to strengthen evidence-based planning and disaster risk reduction initiatives.

Through interactive discussions and hands-on exercises, participants gained valuable experience in creating, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial data that can support local planning, risk assessment, and emergency preparedness. The activity also fostered collaboration among technical personnel, promoting the effective integration of GIS into day-to-day planning and decision-making processes.

DHSUD NCR remains committed to strengthening the capabilities of local government units through continuous capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance, advancing safer, smarter, and more resilient communities for all.
