Amid reports of haze affecting some parts of the Philippines, including Cotabato City, it is important for the public to understand what air quality index (AQI) levels mean and the corresponding measures that may be taken to protect public health.

From GOOD to EMERGENCY, each AQI category reflects the potential health effects of air pollution and provides guidance on appropriate precautions, particularly as air quality conditions change.

This guide is intended to help individuals and communities stay informed and prepared, especially those who may be more vulnerable to the effects of poor air quality, such as children, older adults, and people with respiratory conditions.

MENRE continues to monitor air quality conditions through its Air Quality Monitoring Station (AQMS) in Cotabato City and will provide updates and appropriate advisories as necessary.

𝐋𝐆𝐔 𝐔𝐏𝐈 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐔𝐧-𝐖𝐅𝐏

Under the leadership of Mayor Ma. Rona Cristina A. Piang-Flores, the Local Government Unit of Upi received valuable equipment from the United Nations - World Food Programme (UN-WFP) for the municipality’s Operations Center. The donation includes one (1) desktop set, one (1) laptop, and one (1) big-screen TV set.

The equipment will support the LGU in monitoring situations, coordinating emergency operations, and ensuring timely sharing of information during disasters and other emergencies.

The officialdom of Upi sincerely thank the United Nations - World Food Programme for this valuable support toward strengthening disaster preparedness and building a more resilient Upi.

The Local Government Unit of Upi, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), sent a staff member to participate in and successfully completed the 5-Day Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) Training held on August 24–28, 2026, at KDT Manor, Cotabato City.

The training was conducted by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology – BARMM.

The training modules focused on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into local development, contingency planning, and emergency preparedness through the use of the REDAS software. The training further enhanced the participant’s technical knowledge and skills in earthquake impact assessment, supporting more effective disaster preparedness, response, and risk-informed decision-making at the local level.

The LGU Upi remains committed to strengthening the capacity of its DRRM personnel and advancing the municipality’s preparedness and resilience against earthquake-related hazards.

On August 21, 2026, personnel from the Upi Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) conducted a lecture on Basic Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Concepts as part of the Linggo ng Kabataan activities of Barangays Nangi and Borongotan.

The activity was held at the Barangay Covered Court, Borongotan, Upi, Maguindanao del Norte, and aimed to enhance the participants’ awareness and understanding of basic DRRM concepts, disaster preparedness, and the importance of community involvement in reducing disaster risks.

In response to the request of St. Francis Episcopal School of Upi, Inc. (SFESUI), the Local Government Unit of Upi, through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), in collaboration with the Upi Municipal Fire Station, conducted an Orientation on Basic Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Concepts, Disaster Preparedness, and Fire Safety Awareness.

The activity aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and awareness of basic disaster risk reduction and management concepts, preparedness measures, and appropriate fire safety practices. As part of the activity, participants actively engaged in practical simulations, including an Earthquake Drill and Fire Suppression Exercise, to strengthen their understanding and ability to respond appropriately during emergencies.

The activity was conducted on August 20, 2026, at the SFESUI Campus, Nuro, Upi, Maguindanao del Norte.

Ngayong National Heroes' Day, ang Office of Civil Defense (OCD) ay nagbibigay-pugay at nagpapaabot ng pasasalamat sa ating DRRM workers sa buong bansa at sa iba pang modernong bayani ng ating panahon.

Sa oras ng panganib at kalamidad, ang ating DRRM workers ay humaharap din sa banta ng panganib upang matulungan at maprotektahan ang ating mga kababayan.

Maraming salamat sa inyong tapang, malasakit, at serbisyo sa bayan.

Sama-sama tayo sa pagsulong na maipasa ang Magna Carta for DRRM Workers para sa proteksyon ng mga DRRM Workers sa ating bansa.
