🚀 Building in space is one of the biggest challenges of future missions. So what if we could manufacture metal parts directly in orbit?

🧑‍🔬 Scientists from Wrocław University of Science and Technology are working with ESA - European Space Agency on a breakthrough: 3D metal printing in microgravity.

📝 Their research explores how advanced manufacturing technologies can operate in space conditions, where traditional methods don’t work the same way as on Earth.

🇵🇱 Instead of commonly used metal powders, the Polish team is developing a method based on laser melting of solid wire, which is far more efficient and better suited for zero-gravity conditions.

Significant progress is being made in the modernization of Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station 🇵🇱❄️

Supported by an investment of over PLN 173 million from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the project aims to transform this essential research facility into a modern center for scientific exploration, which is crucial for advancing our understanding of climate change and ocean ecosystems.

Construction in Antarctica comes with major challenges, but dedicated teams are successfully overcoming them. From pre-assembling components in Poland to managing complex logistics and transport, every step brings us closer to a state-of-the-art research hub.

Once completed, the upgraded station will not only strengthen Poland’s contribution to global science but also reinforce its role within the Antarctic Treaty System, helping shape international environmental policy.
