Sellel nädalal olid suursaadik Margus Laidre, välisministeeriumi üleilmse eestluse erivolitustega diplomaatiline esindaja Marti Mätas ja meie diplomaadid Ojamaal, kus toimus oluline sündmus.

Ametisse nimetati Eesti uus aukonsul Marion Norrby ning tänati senist aukonsulit Riina Noodaperat tema pikaajalise ja pühendunud töö eest.

„Eesti ja Ojamaa vahel on palju ühiseid kokkupuutepunkte ning soovin oma uues rollis aidata kaasa meie inimeste, ettevõtjate ja organisatsioonide vaheliste sidemete tugevdamisele. Samuti pean oluliseks olla toeks saarel viibivatele ja elavatele Eesti kodanikele,“ ütles Marion Norrby.

Vastuvõtul tutvustati külalistele ka Eesti maitseid ja moekunsti. Eesti maitsete eest hoolitsesid Karl Krupp, Jasper Jürisson ja Johannes Hõimoja ning Eesti moekunsti tutvustasid moeloojad Kirill Safonov ja Liina Stein. Külalised said tutvuda ka Kati Kerstna klaasikunstiga.

Visiidi käigus kohtusid saatkonna esindajad ka Ojamaa kuberneri Charlotte Petri Gornitzkaga ning külastasid Gotlandi rügementi P18.

This week, Ambassador Margus Laidre, Ambassador at Large for the Diaspora Marti Mätas and our diplomats visited Gotland, where an important event took place.

Marion Norrby was appointed Estonia’s new Honorary Consul in Gotland, and we also thanked outgoing Honorary Consul Riina Noodapera for her long-standing and dedicated service.

“Estonia and Gotland have many points of connection, and in my new role I hope to help strengthen ties between our people, businesses and organisations. I also consider it important to support Estonian citizens living on or visiting the island,” said Marion Norrby.

The reception also offered guests an opportunity to discover Estonian flavours, fashion and glass art. Chefs Karl Krupp, Jasper Jürisson and Johannes Hõimoja introduced Estonian cuisine, while fashion designers Kirill Safonov and Liina Stein presented Estonian fashion. Guests could also explore an exhibition of glass art by Kati Kerstna.

During the visit, representatives of the Embassy also met with Governor of Gotland Charlotte Petri Gornitzka and visited the Gotland Regiment P18.

It was a pleasure to host State Secretary Dag Hartelius yesterday at the Estonian residence for a meeting with the Ambassadors of the NB8 countries, Poland and Germany.

The discussion provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on regional cooperation, European security and our shared priorities. Close coordination and strong partnerships remain essential in addressing the challenges facing our region and Europe.

Thank you to State Secretary Hartelius and all participating Ambassadors for the constructive and engaging discussion.

Estonian Foreign Minister gave an interview to Sveriges Radio about the security reality Europe faces.

Russia’s sabotage and provocations are not simply “hybrid threats”. This is state-sponsored terrorism, aimed at intimidating and dividing our societies.

We need to call it what it is and act accordingly.

”Det är inte ett klassiskt krig, men det är krig”, säger Estlands utrikesminister Margus Tsahkna i en intervju till Ekot.

🇪🇪 PISA2025 confirms - StrongEST education in Europe!
• Estonian students continue to demonstrate knowledge and skills that rank among the best in Europe and the world.
• Estonia ranks first in Europe in science and mathematics, and second in reading. Globally, Estonia ranks sixth in science, behind B-S-J-Z (China), Singapore, Macao (China), Chinese Taipei and Japan.
• In mathematics, Estonia ranks behind B-S-J-Z (China), Singapore, Macao (China), Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong (China).
• In reading, Estonia ranks eighth, behind Singapore, B-S-J-Z (China), Chinese Taipei, Japan, Macao (China), Korea and Ireland.
• The strengths of Estonia’s education system include strong learning outcomes, relatively equitable educational opportunities, and students’ belief that they can develop their abilities. Students also report high levels of life satisfaction.
• At the same time, the results show a continued decline in reading performance. The school environment, digital distraction and teacher shortages also require greater attention.

Estonia's parliament elected today Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madise as the country's next president.

After the results were read out, Madise told the MPs present: "I will do my best to be worthy of this trust. I hope that through mutual understanding, debating vigorously when necessary while still supporting one another, we can accomplish a great deal together for Estonia, so that life in Estonia is happy, good and safe."

Madise will become Estonia's seventh president. She will be sworn into office on October 12.
