Big congratulations to our newly elected board members: Ivan Barry, Santa Fe County Deputy Assessor, as Chair; Joaquin Valdez, Rio Arriba County Assessor, as Treasurer; and Tyler Smith of the Bernalillo County Assessor’s Office as Secretary. We’re also grateful to have Damian Lara, Bernalillo County Assessor, continuing to serve as Vice Chair. We are excited for the year ahead and the great work to come! 💪✨

Last week, Deputy Assessor Ivan Barry, along with other members of New Mexico Counties Assessors' Offices, attended the 2025 International Association of Assessing Officers IAAO Legal Seminar in Phoenix, Arizona.

This annual seminar brings together assessors, attorneys, and property tax professionals from across the country to focus on the legal side of property assessment. Sessions covered topics such as recent property tax case law, valuation challenges for complex properties, exemptions, and emerging issues impacting assessment practices.

We appreciate the opportunity to have our office represented and to bring this knowledge back to our work here at home and to the NMC Assessors' Affiliate.
