We would like to wish Isabel a very happy birthday! Isabel is one of our many dedicated members who have the drive and motivation we aim to see. She graduated from DACC this past week from their EMT program and we soon hope to see her go through the fire academy.

Thank you for all that you do! We hope you have an amazing day surrounded by friends and family and wish you many more years to come!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Trans Aero family as the loss of one of their planes went down this morning.

The circumstances regarding the incident are unknown and the identities of the crew members have not been released. Please keep those involved in your prayers as everyone navigates through this tragic loss.

Last night members of District 1 received important hands on training on the Zoll Auto Pulse. The Auto Pulse, is a CPR Aided device that continuously provides compressions allowing our volunteers to free up hands to provide care or allow them to move the patient without needing to stop compressions.

There are a handful of these devices located throughout the county of Otero, meant to help our first responders provide adequate and consistent compressions during a cardiac event. This device also allows volunteers to provide CPR in tight spaces where it is impossible to fit people to provide adequate care, such as in tiny bathrooms or inside wrecked vehicles.

We extend our gratitude to the Zoll company and Laverne Smith for providing such a great hands on training and for providing our members with dinner. It was a pleasure having you at our department, we look forward to expanding our knowledge and equipment with you!

District 1 had a busy morning that included a mutual aid structure fire. 🔥

At approximately 0740, District 1 was requested to assist with the safe disposal of an Unexploded Ordinance out in the desert south of the dump.

Agencies involved:
Otero County Emergency Services
Otero County Sheriff's Office, New Mexico
Holloman Air Force EOD

Directly after that, District 1 was requested to assist with a structure fire in the 1100 block of Wright Ave in Alamogordo. Engine 1110, Service 1446, and Rescue 1240 responded to the structure fire and assisted with overhaul operations and rehabilitation operations.

Friendly Reminder:

Otero County along with the State of New Mexico, are in a burn ban for an undetermined amount of time. This is due to the dry weather climate and the multiple wildland fires that have occurred and are still burning.

What does this mean for residents:

There is no burning of any type allowed. This is to include no burning of weeds, brush, or any item you may think of burning. You may use gas grills but no charcoal grills in public areas such as parks.

If you are caught burning it will be up to the officers discretion on whether you will be summoned into court or not. Please be smart and obey the burn ban.
