Is there anything better than the joy of reading? Not if you ask Zendira and Jahir who are signed up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library thanks to mom Makeda!

If you believe in the value of early childhood literacy and power of building your own home library, help us spread the gift of reading today in honor of Dolly Parton. 9 to 5 Day isn't over yet! There is still plenty of time in the day to Give Like Dolly!

What if reading one book together could help us become better neighbors? This fall, Weave: The Social Fabric Project at The Aspen Institutee and United Way of the Greater Capital Region are inviting people across our community to participate in Weave’s first ever BIG READ.

This is a shared reading and conversation experience centered on David Brooks' book, “How to Know a Person: The Art of Seeing Others Deeply and Being Deeply Seen.”

From Oct.1-Nov. 5, readers across the country will explore the book together and put its ideas about connection, curiosity, and trust into practice. Join the BIG READ, you participate at weavers.org/bigread/.

Being employed doesn't always mean you are thriving. That was the message that was underscored by our Chief Development Officer, Claire Reid at today's ALICE event. The True Cost of Economic Security brought together our partners in the community to better understand the most recent ALICE data and what it means for our neighbors. More than 175,000 Capital Region families are struggling to afford basic necessities, even with employment.

We are extremely grateful to the following individuals for their participation and insight in today's discussion.
Dr. Amanda Duff, Executive Director, Healthy Capital District
Krista Hesdorfer, Director of Public Affairs, Hunger Solutions New York
Dede Hill, Vice President of Policy, Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy

This morning, our team presented this year‘s ALICE report, and what it means for Capital Region families. The presentation was led by Chief Impact Officer, Claire Reid and followed up with a comprehensive discussion with community leaders about current trends and what more local families need to attain financial stability.
