Under Section 604 of the Albany City Charter, the Mayor is required to submit a proposed budget to the Common Council on or before October 1 of each year.

On Thursday, October 1 at 11 a.m., I will deliver my proposed 2027 City of Albany budget to the Common Council, fellow elected officials, and our city department heads.

We know many residents are deeply invested in Albany’s future and have a real stake in this budget. Everyone should be able to hear this presentation as it happens. That’s why we’ll be live-streaming it on my page and YouTube channel.

Albany faces serious financial challenges, but also significant opportunities for its future.

As we prepare to release the proposed 2027 City Budget on October 1, our responsibility is to confront our financial reality, make informed decisions, and plan for the years ahead.

This budget will require difficult choices about how we manage City resources, maintain essential services, and position Albany to benefit from new investments.

The decisions ahead will affect every neighborhood. Residents deserve to understand what’s at stake and have a voice in the process.

October 1 is the beginning of that conversation. Stay informed. Stay engaged.

I had the pleasure of welcoming a team of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) members to City Hall as they began an eight-week deployment in partnership with Albany’s Love Your Block program.

AmeriCorps NCCC is a national service program that brings young adults together to serve communities across the country. Their commitment to public service is something worth recognizing and celebrating.

During their time in Albany, the team will support neighborhood revitalization efforts, including community garden maintenance, vacant lot restoration, neighborhood cleanups, and other projects that directly benefit our residents.

We’re grateful to have these young leaders investing their time and energy in our great city.

Rainy weekend in Albany, but I’m still thinking about last weekend! Between Mississippi Day, the Ukrainian Festival, and Lark Out Loud, there was no shortage of things to do around the city.

With rain and wind expected this weekend, our City crews are on standby and monitoring conditions closely. While we do not anticipate significant impacts at this time, we are ready to respond if needed.

I encourage everyone to stay informed, travel safely, and keep these resources handy. Updates will be made as conditions are monitored.

Being New York’s Capital City means Albany serves far more people than those who live within our borders. That is something to be proud of, and it also means understanding what growth and regional demand require from the City systems that support it every day.

UAlbany is welcoming the largest first-year class in its history. Albany Medical Center continues to serve as one of the region’s most important healthcare institutions. Their success is part of Albany’s success, and both have been valued partners during my first year as Mayor.

As Albany grows and its institutions continue to serve more people, we must ensure our City’s systems remain strong to support that growth. 

I’m grateful to UAlbany, Albany Med, and our partners across the region for being part of that work. I’m also grateful for the State’s continued partnership, including $400 million for the Championing Albany’s Potential initiative and its $200 million Downtown Albany Strategy. Thank you to to Governor Kathy Hochul, Speaker Carl Heastie, Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senator Patricia Fahy, Assemblymember Gabriella Romero, and Assemblymember John McDonald for this unprecedented support.

Understanding the cost of being a Capital City is an important part of understanding Albany’s fiscal reality and building a sustainable path forward.

Turning the lights back on means creating more reasons for people to stay, gather, invest, and enjoy Albany after dark.

Our Advisory Council on Nightlife Economy has offered 22 recommendations to my Administration with a focus on strengthening small businesses, creating a safer nightlife environment, activating storefronts, and building a more vibrant cultural economy. We’re already moving on that work, including draft legislation for a vacant storefront registry and continued investment in new experiences across the city.
