The Anchorage Waste to Energy facility will utilize the best available technology for managing the facility for the environment. There are facilities across the United States and prolific worldwide among neighborhoods and communities. Anchorage is moving in a direction to divert as much recyclables out of the waste stream, produce 25MW of power, and sell the byproduct of precious metals. The city is moving forward with a proposal to build a waste-to-energy plant that could reduce landfill while adding electricity.

Trash Tip Tuesday: To dispose of a refrigerator or freezer, please make sure you remove the doors prior to bringing to the Central Transfer Station or Anchorage Regional Landfill. The appliance must be emptied and doors fully removed. If you have questions or need clarification, please email our team [email protected]

Every day, Anchorage households and businesses generate hundreds of tons of trash. Solid Waste Services is planning how we'll manage that waste safely and responsibly for decades to come.
That's why we are advancing a Waste-to-Energy facility that would put our waste to work by converting it into electricity while significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to the Anchorage Regional Landfill. The project will provide a long-term solution for managing waste, generating electricity, and extending the life of our community's landfill for generations to come.
Over the next few months, we'll continue to share information about the project, explain how it works, answer your questions, and provide opportunities to learn more.

Trash Tip Tuesday: For the safety of everyone on the road, please cover and secure your load before transport. Use bungee cords and/or ratchet straps along with a tarp or cargo net to make sure your trash reaches the landfill or transfer station safely. If you arrive with an uncovered or unsecured load, you may be charged a fine. Please everyone, be safe out there.

Please help keep our community safe by disposing of lithium batteries the right way. ✔️
Drop them off at approved locations- DO NOT take them in your trash or recycling carts. 🗑️➡️🏭

This Fourth of July, as our nation celebrates 250 years of independence, Solid Waste Services wishes everyone a safe and festive holiday weekend.
