Summer is quickly coming to a close and so is the organics collection program for 2026. The last day for curbside collection will be September 30. Thank you everyone who pitched in to diverting organics from the landfill that generates landfill gas. We will resume collection May 2027. Please email questions or comments to [email protected]

The entrance to 56th at Old Seward will be closed starting next week, September 14 through September 19.
All access to the Central Transfer Station and the Materials Recovery Facility will be via Homer Dr, a route map is attached.
We will work to keep lines off of 56th Ave and Homer, but please be aware that a lot of traffic will be concentrated at the residential entrance with all traffic entering and exiting 56th Ave at Homer Drive.

Please watch for pedestrians, including those who may be in blind spots, distracted, or stepping out from behind vehicles. Be patient and aware.

ATTENTION - EXPECT New Temporary Traffic Pattern at the Landfill from September 7 through the winter months.
​SWS is rebuilding the residential disposal building at the Anchorage Regional Landfill. During this project the location for residential customer disposal, metal disposal, refrigerators, and more will be relocated. Please follow color coded new routes, ​stay aware of your surroundings, drive SLOWLY and if you have any questions, please reach out to Customer Service at [email protected] Please Share

Happy Labor Day Weekend! 🎉 All Facilities close in observance of Labor Day at 2pm on Monday September 7, however, the Customer Service Call Center and Administration will be closed. All curbside services (commercial/ residential trash, recycling, and organics collection ) will be fully operational. Did you know Congress passed the official Labor Day on June 28, 1894 to celebrate workers every first Monday of September thereafter? We honor and celebrate all workers! Have a fun, and safe holiday weekend.

An SWS collections vehicle was involved in an accident this morning. Thankfully, our driver was able to exit the vehicle with assistance from AFD. Our crew member was transported to the hospital for treatment. The situation is under investigation by APD. SWS supports each other, and we will surround our teammate with our thoughts and prayers for a strong recovery. Thank you to AFD, APD, and first responders for swift action.

Tour essentials: Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and dress in layers. Landfills can occasionally be smelly, so if you’re sensitive to odors, feel free to bring a mask for your comfort. Trash is treasure! Come on let’s have some fun!
