Construction for the SE Oralabor Road and SE Four Mile Drive Traffic Signal Project will begin Monday, June 1, 2026. The intersection will remain open, with all-way STOP signs until the new traffic signal is activated fall 2026. In addition to installing a traffic signal, this project includes widening of the east and north legs of the project intersection to add long-term capacity. Weather permitting, the West State Street Frontage Road will fully close at the intersection of SW 4th Street on Monday, June 1, 2026. This is part of the Westlawn Place Area Utility Improvements Project, which will replace older water mains, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and pavement that are reaching the end of their service life. Many of the existing water mains in this area are smaller iron pipes that have experienced water main breaks and no longer meet current standards for water service and fire protection. These pipes will be replaced with new, larger PVC water mains. Phase 1 of the project also includes several drainage improvements designed to better manage stormwater in the area. Work includes expanding the Ankeny Art Center Basin, installing new reinforced concrete box culverts, and constructing a relief storm sewer system along SW Westlawn Drive and through Westside Park.

In addition, crews will reconstruct SW 4th Street from SW State Street Frontage Road to SW Westlawn Drive, including replacement of pavement and underground utilities. The Westlawn Place improvements will be completed in multiple phases over several years, allowing the City to replace utilities and streets in sections of the neighborhood. I was overjoyed to be at On With Life Long Term Care this afternoon to celebrate their partnership with ChildServe to help more of our most vulnerable Iowans access specialized care. Thanks to years of advocacy from families and caregivers, working with us in the Legislature, resulting in changes to Medicaid and now state funding for a building expansion, OWL in Polk City will be a home for vent-dependent adults who were otherwise having to go out of state for care. These are the success stories and partnerships we can all be proud of supporting. โค๏ธ

I'm not crying, you're crying! (Okay, I am literally crying.)

Thank you, Mrs. Rohlf, for being such an amazing teacher and for loving these kids so well! Your students were so lucky to have you over the last 35 years. Congratulations on your retirement!

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY! ๐Ÿ“ข

I'm incredibly excited to be endorsed by States Win, an organization committed to lifting up progressive candidates running in critical state legislative races across the country!

In 2025, Iowa Senate Democrats broke the supermajority, and our race is next to keep building back to the majority. I'm grateful to the team at States Win for recognizing what's at stake in Iowa and for being a part of our team. Next up: getting to the Senate so I can continue the work of ensuring economic security and opportunity for all Ankeny families AND make Iowa a place where everyone can not just survive, but thrive!

I'm always happy to be supporting my ride or die, State Rep. Molly Buck! ๐Ÿ’™

Friends, please do what you can to help get Molly back to the Iowa House. We need her voice, leadership, and common sense approach to lifting up all Iowans now more than ever.

Thank you IMPACT Community Action Partnership for the invitation to your volunteer appreciation reception this evening! It was an honor to participate in the panel discussion on food insecurity and power of building strong partnerships to meet the biggest challenges facing Iowa families. Because, to be honest, poverty and economic insecurity is a policy decision (a series of decisions, actually).

But most of all, thank you and congratulations to all the amazing volunteers who were recognized for all the ways you serve our communities every day. Your impact is invaluable. โค๏ธ

This is what I like to call . Head over to Summerbrook Park tonight to spend time with neighbors, share your thoughts with the City of Ankeny - Government Parks & Rec staff on the future of our city parks, and enjoy some ice cream, too!

Join us tonight, May 26, for an ice cream social at Summerbrook Park from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event will be held at the north playground/park shelter located at 800 SE Delaware Ave.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy ice cream, play games, meet your neighbors, the Ankeny Park Board and the Parks & Recreation staff. Residents will also have the opportunity to complete a brief questionnaire and share input that will help shape future park needs and priorities. This event is free and open to the public. Ice cream will be available while supplies last.

Perfect morning to kick off the Uptown Ankeny Farmers Market! I absolutely love visiting with vendors, catching up with friends, and taking home something delicious! Molly, Amy, and I had a blast!

In addition to the gorgeous flowers, I am so excited for this fudge pie from Wooden Spoons Workshops and stuffed dates from Meadow Lane Treats (both from here in ). Yum!

It was also a pleasure to meet Bahar, a refugee from Afghanistan who made this beautiful bookmark and was at the market with Des Moines Refugee Support. Her message - "the more we help others, the farther we all go" - is the epitome of building community and is more important than ever.
