A small gift can bring hope during a difficult time.

Many of our donors support the NKFM’s Emergency Fund, providing critical assistance to people living with kidney disease when they need it most.
One dialysis social worker shared this story:

“I've handed a gift card to a male patient who replied with tears in his eyes with a heartfelt thank you. His wife was ill and, with his new diagnosis of kidney disease, he was not working either, making their household income zero that month. The card was used to put food in the fridge and allow the patient and his spouse comfort and peace among their health concerns. The impact is immense. This grant offers light during a dark time.”

For someone facing kidney disease, financial hardship can add another layer of stress to an already overwhelming situation. Your support of the Emergency Fund can provide a little breathing room when it’s needed most.

Your kidneys act like filters for your blood. When they start to become damaged, one of the first signs is that small amounts of protein called albumin leak into your urine.

A simple urine test, called the uACR test (urine albumin to creatinine ratio), can help detect early signs of kidney damage, especially for people with diabetes or high blood pressure. It’s quick, painless, and could make all the difference.

Learn how the uACR test for kidney damage can detect early signs of kidney disease—especially important for people with diabetes or high blood pressure.
