Thanks for your commitment to a healthy natural environment!

Huge thank you to all of our friends at Sierra Club Maryland Chapter and Anne Arundel Sierra Club for tossing their support behind our campaign for the future of South County. We've done big things together: passed the strongest forest conservation law in state history, fought big-monied developers, and kept stormwater pollution out of our Chesapeake Bay. There's so much more we will do together to protect our lands, waters, and communities. Thanks for your support!

A Bernard Robinson and Robert Fuller promoted battery-powered leaf blowers at the Annapolis EV car show, where visitors could learn about road trips in EVs and talk to EV owners about their experience with their EVs. Will Shorter enjoyed the fun. Great annual event at the Annapolis Mall!

Sometimes activism means bearing silent witness. These activists for the Bottle Bill waited six hours for the Bottle Bill hearing in the Senate environment committee. We sat as a visible supportive presence while citizens who supported the bill made excellent testimony about how important and effective this bill will be in significantly reducing beverage container litter from our land and waterways. We hope it passes this year!

Beverage containers collected along shoreline of Fort Smallwood Park in under an hour on Sunday, February 2. Only 25% of beverage containers (and those annoying bottles caps) are recycled in Maryland. Let's change that to 90% of beverage containers recycled by passing the Bottle Bill!

The Anne Arundel Sierra Club showed up in force at the Annual Maryland Environmental Summit to support passage of the Bottle Bill in 2025. The Bottle Bill would rid Maryland of beverage container litter by establishing a small deposit and convenient collection centers. Governor Wes Moore called our natural environment our "heirloom" to care for and pass along to the next generation. Sierra Club leader Martha Ainsworth outlined all the benefits of the Bottle Bill to the 200 activists assembled.

Our Story

The Anne Arundel Sierra Club is working to make change locally and we want you to join us! We believe in working together to explore, enjoy, and protect the planet. We love to get outdoors, and host regular public nature and service outings. We work to protect the local land we love and its native wildlife, the air we breathe, the water we drink and play in... Chesapeake Bay and the tributary rivers that make up our watershed. Come to an event (we meet in person and virtually) or send us a message anytime!

The background: The Sierra Club is a volunteer-led, national environmental advocacy organization with entities at the national, state, and local level. Each entity is governed by an Executive Committee (“ExCom”) of members elected for their interest in protecting our environment, organizational and leadership abilities, and desire to make a difference. Unlike many other environmental groups, most of the work in the Sierra Club is done by volunteers, supported by a small number of paid staff in the state office. The Anne Arundel Group ExCom sets priorities and conservation goals; organizes nature and service outings, educational and activist events; recruits and communicates with members and the public; endorses political candidates; and raises funds, in accordance with Sierra Club policies and bylaws.
