🇺🇸 25 Years Later — We Will Never Forget

Twenty-five years ago, our country experienced a day that forever changed us.

As members of the emergency services community, September 11 carries a special meaning. We think about the first responders who kissed their families goodbye, reported for duty, and had no idea they would be called to make the ultimate sacrifice.

They ran toward the danger because someone needed help.

That spirit of service lives on in emergency responders across this country and right here in our own community — neighbors helping neighbors and answering the call on someone’s worst day.

Today, we remember the lives lost, the families who still carry their absence, and our fellow responders who never made it home.

25 years later, we still remember. We still honor. And we will never forget. 🇺🇸

🧰 BUILD IT: Your Emergency Kit 🧰

You don’t have to build your entire emergency kit in one shopping trip! Start with what you have and build it over time.

💧 Start with the basics — Water, food, flashlights and first aid supplies.

🏠 Make it fit YOUR household — Think about medications, children, older adults and anyone with special needs.

🐾 Don’t forget your pets — They need food, water and medications too!

📻 Plan for power outages — Keep a weather radio, extra batteries and a way to charge your phone handy.

📄 Protect the important stuff — Keep copies of IDs, insurance information and other important documents together.

🛒 Build a little at a time — Add one or two emergency supplies to your cart during regular shopping trips. Preparedness doesn’t have to break the bank.

This week’s challenge: Take a look around your house and see how many emergency kit items you already have. You may be more prepared than you think!

BUILD it today. CHECK it regularly. REFRESH it when needed. 🧰✅🔄

International Overdose Awareness Day reminds us that overdoses are preventable, and effective prevention solutions exist.

We have addressed substance use and overdoses in our community through several effective programs and initiatives to ensure everyone has a path to recovery. For some, life-saving support is step number one in that path to recovery.

Initiatives include:

- Creation and growth of the Community Paramedic program, which includes a Rapid Response Team that focuses on accidental op**te and other substance overdoses.

- Implementation of the community re-entry team, helping to navigate resources for those recently released.

- Expanded access to treatment and clinical services, including access to MOUD.

- Expanded distribution and training of the overdose reversal medication naloxone and access to clean and safe supplies.

- The Harm Reduction Program, based out of 40 Coxe Ave. expanded, adding a dedicated Peer Case Manager and serving 3,041 unique individuals last FY alone.

Between 2022 and projected 2025 numbers, overdose deaths fell 46%, and emergency department overdose visits dropped 32%.
