The Kempe Foundation has partnered with Blue Rising over the past several years in seeking to pass legislation to protect children from harms they are increasingly suffering through social media and other online conduits. We had the pleasure of attending a recent online child safety symposium hosted by Blue Rising and were encouraged to hear from public leaders such as, Attorney General Phil Weiser, and Congressman Joe Neguse, who are also deeply concerned and are taking action to mandate safeguards for children from tech facilitated harms and abuse.
The symposium included informative discussions regarding key measures to reduce harms to children while online, including safety by design, age assurance, and accountability by the social media companies and digital platforms that children are accessing.
Blue Rising works with the families who have tragically lost their children and with other young people who have suffered harms from online usage. While our hearts grieve with them, we also applaud the strength, courage, and resolve of these parents and youth in demanding change. We are grateful for Blue Rising's leadership and look forward to working together in the upcoming legislative session to create lasting change for children online and improving their wellbeing and mental health.
