The Averill Park Central School District serves the needs of elementary, secondary, and special education students residing in the towns of Berlin, Brunswick, East Greenbush, Nassau, North Greenbush, Poestenkill, Sand Lake, Schodack and Stephentown. Combining the qualities of a rural suburban setting with the benefit of a strong and vibrant community, the district is committed to student learning and achievement in its three elementary schools ( Poestenkill, Miller Hill - Sand Lake, West Sand Lake), its middle school (Algonquin) and its High School.

The APHS Angler Club had multiple special guests speak to the group to start the year! Bob Davis and Tom Carroll from Rensselaer County Conservation Alliance spoke about the Habitat Restoration of the Poestenkill Creek. Community member/fly fishing guide Jesse Vollick also joined to talk to the group.

Last week, Mr. Kozlowski's Construction Practicum class was invited to Bradley Park in Sand Lake to see the final Westchester modular home being placed on its lot. Owners Kay and De Bradley shared the history of the development. After originally starting as an amusement park in the 1960s, Kay and her late husband Don started their dream of creating a residential development where everyone wanted to live.

Jim Woodside, regional sales manager, shared the process of making prefabricated homes, the timeline, and the benefits of a Westchester home. He even had a gift of sweatshirts for all the students.

Students were invited into the first box as it was set in place on the foundation. Students were able to see how much of the house was finished before arriving at the site. In just 6 hours all four boxes for the house, plus the garage, were set by crane, secured, and waterproofed.

A huge thank you to Bradley Park and Westchester Modular Homes for this opportunity for our students!

Today, during lunches, our very own Señora Apelanz and Señor Zehnder hosted Hispanic Heritage Month Trivia! Students had fun testing their knowledge and learning something new along the way. 🧠🌎

After school, Señora Apelanz and Señora Kipp hosted a Make-Your-Own Piñata event! 🎨🎊 Students got creative, had fun, and showed off their artistic skills.

Fun was definitely had by all! ❤️
